equipping wedding ring in multiplayer

hi all. me and a friend recently managed to finally craft the wedding ring that allows player-player marriage in the multiplayer mode. we found that the wedding ring can be equipped after receiving it from the other player. any idea if it does anything by wearing it rather than just holding it in your inventory?
