Mods
Hi everyone, so I got a question.
I saw so many cool mods for this game, and I really want to try them out, but I just don't know if I could get in trouble with Steam or getting maybe even banned for changing the files?

Thanks for helping and I wish you a wonderful day :2017meatball:

Modding is completely safe! SMAPI is widely used by people who play Stardew Valley and is 100% safe to use without getting in trouble with Steam, 0 banning involved

You can only get banned playing in VAC protected servers. Stardew Valley is not a game to worry about this. The dev don't mind people modding his game. Remember to back up your save.

As Crysile said Steam even has workshop for subscibing to mods through Steam so modding your game is perfectly ok on single player games in fact it's encouraged because it lenghtens the life of a game buuuuut....
Online multiplayer games have different rules because cheats use mods to well cheat lol stardew valley is fine to mod as you see fit so mod away to your hearts content with no concerns at all :) You can use this same advice on any single player game for future reference.

You shouldn't get in any trouble for modding your game! :)

The only thing worth of note is that if you run the game through SMAPI without using the Steam launcher you may not be able to unlock achievements. But I'm pretty sure the SMAPI page on the wiki teaches how to get around that issue, so it should be fine.

what mods would you suggest? not for cheating but for extending the game or textures

Should work, at least by now. Going with SMAPI and yesterday i got an achievment that is also shown on Steam. And i am pretty sure i got that witouth any hoop jumping to correct that in any way on my side. Dunno if its chance of course and i just got lucky and the next one might not show up.

The only downside to using mods is you won't get achievments.

And remember -- Once you slam in a modification, you forfeit your right to a working game.
