Wilderness Golem on a normal farm - expected behavior?
Hi.
I'm playing co-op on beta version 1.3.15, on a normal farm layout. I noticed that since a few nights ago, I started having all sorts of monsters on the farm (wilderness golem, slimes) during evening/night.
The issue is that I tried to avoid a golem but it destroyed some of my kegs.
Note: I didn't make the quest with the strange bun.
Is this the intended behavior, to have destructive monsters on a normal farm?

Nope. Any chance one of your farmhands summoned the beasties? Or are you playing single player? You didn't edit your save file for anything else recently that you may have made a mistake, did you?

(Sorry if that last part sounded rude, it's not intended as such. Just trying to find the possible cause.)

even if they did, I don't think wilderness golems can spawn on any other farm aside from wilderness farm

They can, according to the wiki. Any farm that has monsters spawn can get wilderness golems. Haven't tried it myself, though...

It seems like kegs and such should be immune to being destroyed, so it could be a bug, but it could also be a bug...

- Dust sprites in the mines can destroy rocks.
- Villagers can destroy items if they walk over it.

It's possible they updated it so monsters can trash stuff, making the Wilderness farm more dangerous, and forcing you to keep stuff inside. It's also possible it's a bug, and the golems accidentally have the same code as walking villagers, since they walk in the same way rather than bouncing or flying.

Easiest way to check would be to bring a few items like furnaces or kegs to the mines to floors 30-40 of the mines, and try to box in a stone golem. See if they can escape a ring of kegs, or if they destroy them.

aren't those the monsters that scale with the player's level? if we're thinking of the same monster, those are exclusive to wilderness farm.

Wilderness Golems are a unique enemy found on farms at night if the player selects a wilderness map as their farm layout. They'll scale in difficulty based on the player's combat level; as the player's level increases so will the monster's difficulty. Wilderness Golems can also spawn on other farm layouts provided the player has given a Strange Bun to the Dark Shrine of Night Terrors in the Witch's Hut.

Mondai is correct. There is an item in the game that allows monsters to be spawned (or turned off) in any farm map.

I think ray is saying he thinks the golems are unique to the map, but the other maps can still have slimes, etc.

I'm not sure either way

I'm aware of that shrine, but there is one monster that only spawns on wilderness farm.

Yes, Wilderness Golems are a special form of Stone Golems.
So I see on the wiki the 'Wilderness Golem' page says, "Wilderness Golems can also spawn on other farm layouts provided the player has given a Strange Bun to the Dark Shrine of Night Terrors in the Witch's Hut."
and the 'Farm Maps' page, in the Wilderness Farm section, says, "Wilderness Golems are unique to this map."
When wiki pages contradict, one of them is not accurate.

"Wilderness: lots of space to farm, looks a little more interesting than the basic farm with a large lake in the southwest corner, and a cliff along the east and south. On this map, Bats and golems will come out at night. There is a new monster called a Wilderness Golem which is unique to this map. It behaves just like the stone golem, but has different drops. Its stats scale with player combat level."

that's taken from the patch notes for the update that added multiple farm types

We used the strange bun on our multiplayer farm and the wilderness goldem broke a chest, some oil makers and seed makers. But after that night mobs didn't anymore, luckily.

I love how nobody actually has read the former posts. Guys.

The OP is asking why Wilderness Golems are spawning on his STANDARD FARM. He isn't in the wilderness farm. He's not confused about that at all.

...that's not what anyone is saying. someone said that one of his friends might've turned monster spawns on without telling him, I said even if he did that, that still wouldn't explain why there were wilderness golems which means that it's probably a bug.
