My fruit trees aren't growing?
I planted my fruit trees at the beginning of fall, it is now the 18th of fall and so far all but one of my trees have grown one 'step' in they're growth cycle, the last one hasn't grown at all. I've looked it up multiple times already and i keep finding that you need to have 8 free spaces around them where nothing is. I already knew this and made sure to give the trees enough room and yet they still aren't growing past the first 'step'. I have my fruit trees inside my animal pen could they be affecting the growth cycle?

By "free tiles", they mean free of grass, seeds (which can be a bit hard to spot), fences, crafted paths, etc. I think roaming animals are fine and shouldn't be affecting your trees, but you might have missed something stationary that appeared. It's good to check around your fruit trees every day in case a seed has planted itself.

It was my grass thanks for helping me.

Yeah, i wasted half a season of growth on one of my fruit trees because there was a torch next to it. Some of these things make no sense, but there you go.

So you say beginning of fall and now it's fall 18. Fruit trees take 28 days to mature.

To grow fully, yes. But there are still stages of growth that allow you to track if the tree is indeed still growing. No one wants to wait a full season to see if their fruit trees are going to grow, which is why the developer added a visual cue for each week.

Once they are mature, you can put down paths to keep grass, logs, rocks, seeds, etc from generating around your trees.

As a note: if you want your fruit to rise in quality (after a year, you can get silver quality fruit, etc.), the same rules for growing your trees apply. That is, the tiles need to be kept clear of everything including flooring.

If you don't care about a rise in quality (understandable, as the benefits are negligible), then feel free to put flooring down. Just thought I'd mention it just in case you did care.

later (unless the 1.3 changed it) you can also plant trees in the edges of your greenhouse.
at one point they took that out, but then put it back in as a kind of sorry because they had to take your ability to plany trees anywhere else but your farm away (tho now any tree you cut that is not on your farm, regrows back without you planting another one, which is great)

I should have mentioned that. I make all of my fruit into either wine or jelly, and when you do that, quality doesn't matter. A "no star" fruit makes the same quality wine of jelly as iridium fruit.

rather than start a new topic i'll post my query here. concerning bare ground does it matter if the soil has little roots sprouting, pock marked, bits of stone (ie doesn't register as something you can mine)

I've checked my trees that haven't been growing in question and can't find any stones, seeds, obstructions and made sure theres no flooring etc and they've stopped growing. The only other exception are these tiles with stuff in them. I can get rid of them by plowing the ground, but that will definietly stop the tree from growing. if i have time i'll post an image.

As far i know they still allow you to plant trees in the greenhouse edge. Considering it was requested to be put back in and i doubt they would take it out again.

I'm not sure if the dig spots effect it, but the other things you're mentioning shouldn't be an issue. If you're worried about the dig spots, you could always dig them up by tilling the ground and then smooth it back out with a pickaxe.

Thanks for the reply. I'm paranoid enough to try it tbh. Enclosed is the screenshot of the 3 offending plants in question. i planted these some time ago and i would have expected them to have nearly matured or at least grown further. Ok, the 2 nearby where MC is standing had a fence blocking it preventing growth and was removed less than a week ago, but the one by the maple tree has taken a lot longer and i've plowed the back and found nothing.

Yeah, I don't see anything that should be blocking their growth. I'm sure you know they take a full month (or a full season, same thing in this game) to grow, since you've already got fruit trees, but... since it doesn't look like there's anything in the way, the plowing and smoothing back out is the only thing I can think to suggest. Just in case there's a tree seed somewhere that's hiding, or something. Then just give them some more time.
