Edit: Kegs aren't much of an issue. Small price hike in the grand scheme of things... Jars are the unbalanced one.

Till the ground and you can plant trees there. Turn it into a forest.
By year 2, you should be able to be self sufficient, and not need to buy wood from Robin, thus, the price hike is irrelevant.
Should it be delayed to year 3? Maybe. Especially for newer inexperienced players who haven't quite got the hang of the game by year 2.
Unless you mean you wake up one day and go "I know I sold all the materials I've gathered so far yesterday, but today, before the day is done, I shall have two sheds filled to the brim with kegs and jars!"
If that's the case, then dude... clam yourself. Build up to it. A couple of things each day.
You can easily get 1k wood every week or so from chopping down the trees in town, but it helps a lot if you plant trees somewhere like the Quarry or train station; unfortunately it takes time for them to grown, which is why the option to buy wood remains, for those desperate and rich...
It is easier to get iridium in the skull caverns now, from what I've seen. Unless I just got really lucky, it seems like the monsters drop iridium more often now, or at least the bats and rock crabs did. That would help people who still need to get the iridium pickaxe, then they can use blast mining and pickaxe to go deeper, OR gather stone faster for staircases, whichever.
