Why Do the Bachelors SUCK (Discussions)
This is highly opinion base

So - as a girl and a very straight girl - why do the bachelors suck absolute poop in this game? Not trying to bash on the creator for the guys, but they're just so...non-charming. They're big, huge stereotypes and it just makes their personality seem so predictable, boring, and uninteresting. I'm only wooing Shane just so I can unlock the blue chickens, but to be honest he is probably the most relatable character(due to struggling with severe depression myself). Even then he's just a complete deadbeat, alcoholic, no-life loser . Not saying everyone who has depression is like that, but moreover you have a choice to seek help and do something about it. Depression isn't easily fixed especially if it's purely off of genetics. Anyways, here is my thoughts on the bachelors.

Sebastian - Aka The Stereotypical Emo Moocher
I can't even get over the fact that he just looks like a sad emo kid...Not only that he smokes and it's hugely unnatractive. However, he is a gamer which I do not mind since I'm a gamer myself. He doesn't even friggen' work.
On the bright side, his post-marriage dialogue is quite nice and cute. He's rather sensitive to emotions and seems to care about your emotions greatly...But he appears to be a huge moocher with one of his lines being Thanks to your farm I can do what I want with my life . Do your own damn work!

Harvey - The Stereotypical Nice, Awkward Nerd
Probably the least bachelor that sucks. His stache on the other hand though...and yes I know there is a mod for that. I looked at his earlier designs without a stache, oh my lord, he looks hot! He appears to be really cheerful, loving, and not only that but he has a damn job. The after marriage dialogue is to die for...he worries about you coming to the ER all the time, and always declares his undying love for you. Despite his appearance, he'd be my first choice.
Massages ;)

Sam - Stereotypical Rocker With Dad Issues. Plus A Slight Moocher
I mean, at least he worked part-time at Joja mart unlike his other emo friend. Ugh! I hate it when a man doesn't know how to cook...he always, as I've read, talks about his mother's cooking. Like, damn...you're an adult. Shouldn't you know how to cook by now at least? Plus he lives with his mom! It'd be understandable if he's still schooling, but he's not. I don't know. Just something about a man who isn't in school, has had plenty of time to save up money for even an apartment, sounds hugely unnattractive to me. Buuuut, at least he's nice, right?
He's also a damn slob apparently

Elliot - Stereotypical Pretty Boy
He's really fabulous. Really nice guy unlike the other pricks...Good thing that he's a romantic as well! Also, novelists can be quite hot...very cute that I'd be the "inspiration" he's looking for. Not a big fan of his Fabio look whatsoever...It's funny that the least attractive guys are the most marryable. Harvey and Elliot cough cough. Definitely my second choice among the bachelors

Alex - Stereotypical Dumb Jock. Parent Issues
Ugh, I hate this stereotype so much..plus he undermines the fact that I'm a girl when he asks me that I probably couldn't play football(?) with him. Ah, so he's the guy that stereotypes women, hmm? No wonder why he's such good friends with Miss Lil B**ch, Haley . Yes, I hate Haley a lot. Don't care if she opens up after getting to know her. She's a huge stereotype and I hate it...I wouldn't want to get to know a person if they are straight up rude to me to begin with. Anyways, Alex would be my third choice just because his cocky side reminds me of my boyfriend, and his appearance is SIMILAR to his. Despite all of that his post marriage dialogue is quite sweet. Very caring, athletic husband.
“Make sure you stay warm this winter. I worry about your delicate skin.” SUUUPER CUTE

Shane - Stereotypical "Emotional Baggage" That Is a Huge Junkie Alcoholic
I've already stated my thoughts way above. I really, really wish that there is events after marrying him to try and help him turn over a new leaf. Maybe receiving counseling at the clinic could be an option? Of course getting help and actually seeing the benefits takes a very long time, but I think it would be worthwhile. Really, if there was events where Shane starts actually developing in character and getting better, or at least trying really hard(since I know what it is like with depression), then he'd be my number one choice! But, since he is an alcoholic(which I'm not a fan of beings my father is one), a slob, and someone who has major depression but doesn't do much about it is bottom tier. You'd think that marrying someone who genuinely cares for you and loves you would make you motivated enough to feel motivation to change yourself...but with Shane that's not the case!
At least he works at Joja Mart, right?

Final Thoughts
Harvey, Elliot, and Alex are in my opinion the "best choices" with Harvey being the absolute best despite his appearance. Shane is bottom tier and I would regret marrying him. Every other guy is middle tier.
Despite being straight and not being into marrying a female in-game(since I associate these games with my real self), if anything I would either marry Leah or Abigail. Abby seems really cool and "different". She loves catching frogs in the rain and going to the graveyard haha! Leah is also another huuuge choice since she's an artist!! I'm an artist as well.

Maybe someday we will receive updates with these poorly developed bachelors, or have better options in the future.

Remember This is Opinion Based!

Lmao, sorry. I suppose I'm really "passionate" about characters in variety of genres...especially if I'm going to be marrying them.

I've played a lot of Harvest Moon and Runefactory games. Harvest Moon being a huge majority of my childhood alongside Pokemon. I guess it just disappoints me seeing really bad bachelor characters y'know?

I also mostly just put it up to have discussions. Think it'd be interesting and fun ;P

Have you considered marrying one of the girls? I've married Shane, Seb, Abby, Alex and Haley. Alex was the worst of the lot. If you think he's creepy now, he's not any better after you marry him.

Shane: Shane's, like, marrying your best friend. You can fart around him and eat pizza 3 meals in a row and he won't complain. You'd support each other, remind each other to take your Zoloft, etc. He's a babe.
Shane is like, the dream. Marrying your best friend.

Seb: He's uh... my second favorite. He's hella cute, and really sweet once you marry him. You have to remember and consider his history: His mom got married to someone Seb doesn't like, and got a new sister who's constantly praised for her achievements. Rather than confront his feelings, he hides in his basement and tries to escape by fixing his motorcycle and making money online. Like a true introvert, he prefers to spend time in his own bedroom or in a friend's bedroom, or by himself, obviously. When you marry him, he suddenly has somebody to confide in. His biggest issue has been solved. The love he felt he wasn't getting from his family, he's now getting from you. He's very dedicated to you after marriage, always telling you to be careful in the mines and trying not to wake you when he has nightmares. Also, I THINK he quits smoking cigarettes after marriage, or at least heavily cuts back.
Sebastian is the more realistic choice. You might not love everything about him, but you can't deny he's an adorable nerd who you want to help.

Alex: Alex isn't BAD, per se, but he isn't great. His entire thing is that he brags and projects to cover up his own feelings of loneliness and inadequacy. He's one of those people that like, he's nice when he wants to be, but your entire marriage will be him playing pranks on you, to his own amusement, while you roll your eyes and slam doors in his face. He'll make it up to you later on, but he'll still do it again.
Alex is the person you date when you're young and decide to get married because you either don't want to break his heart, or you don't want to be alone again. You're in it for a long time, not a great time.

Haley's a surprisingly great wife, in terms of pure... wife-dom. She makes you breakfast with a smile, tells you her plans for the day, helps out with chores, then leaves you alone. She usually is up for some playtime in the bedroom at the end of the day. Haley surprised me, because she has the most character development of anyone. She's just like Shane, mean at first and extremely pleasant later on, but people hate Haley a lot more.

Abigail is, like Shane, the "friend" that you marry. You game together, throw dinner rolls at each other's heads after telling the kids not to do it, etc. I just didn't click with Abby's personality, personally, but she's still the fan favorite for a reason.

in terms of the other men, who I never married:
Sam's too childish for me, I got him to 8 hearts them never wanted to marry him. I've heard he's a good husband, so maybe he matures quickly like Haley.

Harvey's mustache is too off-putting for me. I got him to 2 hearts once and gave up. I've heard him and Elliot are a LOT more popular with women, especially older women (30+) but he's just gross to me.

Elliot is also disgusting to me. I befriended him once, got him to 6 or 8 hearts, but his personality and appearance are just... gross. He seems like the type to complain when women don't fall for him, despite his good looks and talent.

See, I really like Shane a lot but the fact that he's a slob and an alcoholic puts me off. I don't really mind his depression too much since I have it too, but at the same time there is a fine line of being a bad influence or a team together in depression. I would not mind at all throwing pizza rolls at each other, but man...I strongly believe that there should be events after marriage where he goes to counseling and gets help. Really, he'd be my first choice if it weren't for the alcohol and the slob trait. I have family members who are alcoholics and lets say they aren't the best of memories. I just...strongly think there could be more, better character development with him! Though, I might just go ahead and marry him on one save file just for the heck of it.

Harvey is just my number one pick due to husbando material. Not his looks. His looks are the one thing I despise, but looks can't be everything.

Also, I understand completely as to why Elliot and Harvey are popular amongst older women, but it's funny because I'm only 17 years old haha!

On another note, Sebastian is definitely a more realistic choice. Plus he isn't unattractive looking either, but his "shyness" is offputting just because I'm shy myself. I guess I'm just a lot more into dom males since I'm a very shy female.

Overall, I really do think Shane is the best, but I'm not sure he's the best "husbando" material...like I said if there were events and changes then I would be all for him.

EDIT
Harvey and Elliot are in no way that attractive to me...I just find them to be great husband material due to their personality and what they do. Besides those two I would much rather prefer Seb or Shane..

Sebastian does have his issues, yes (mostly regarding being emo, and the "angry teen" stereotype towards his family). But I disagree that he's a moocher. He's a freelance programmer, wanting to make his own video game. He's driven in that he was working hard to move out of the valley (though he was restricted by the game itself. I don't begrudge him not moving out of the valley when Concerned Ape had to make him stay for the sake of the game), and he only changed his mind about moving out the valley, but not his work ethic. His comment about doing what he wants while supported by your income is regarding making a video game. (If anything, Sebastian might be a kinda self-insert for Concerned Ape.)

Alex has a sad backstory that makes me want to be his friend, but no more. He reveals himself as you get to know him, and he does change to be sweet (if dumb). (Haley as well. I admit to having a soft spot for her, more so than Alex. Maybe this reveals something about me, but I like the idea of the farmer and Haley bonding over being catty.)

Similarly, Shane's sad story just makes me want to be friends with him.

Sam has very little that makes him stand out. He's a pretty "safe" candidate. However, I do understand why he'd be babied a little. I mean, his father (out of all villagers) went to war, and it was a hard war for Kent and for the country. I can understand Jodi being overprotective and wanting her family with her, and I can understand Sam not wanting to leave his family (maybe seeing it as abandoning them during a hard time). (Though Sam should know how to cook, I agree.)

I'm disappointed that Harvey's secret with the radio is that he's listening for planes, because I wanted him to be a spy.

I hate Elliot's pompous purple prose. And the way he seemingly changes his entire book based on a throwaway comment you make.

In fact, I hate how most of the marriage candidates *need* help (whether it's a lot of help or a nudge) *specifically* from the farmer. Only Emily (really stable and happy in herself), Harvey (has made peace with what he can do and what he can't do), and Sebastian (he's working hard towards his goal, but his goal changes) don't need help. Every one is pretty superficial and underdeveloped, with a lot of their issues as characters stemming from that. They'd be a lot more likeable if they had more character and development.

From a guy, the Bachelorettes are pretty stereotype too.

Emo chick Abigail
Super innocent Penny
"♥♥♥♥♥♥" type Haley

And so on. I just figured that stereotypes were the point of it.

^^ THIS!!!

All of the characters are widely underdeveloped and the fact most characters need help or lean on you like a therapist is widely annoying. Like, what if I need a shoulder to lean on you know? I find people who still have their problems, but also being independent in ways more attractive. Like for example Sebastian and Harvey have issues but they still go on with their life and are widely independent, but appear to be there for you at times. I truly believe if there was more character development then I'd like the characters more in this game.

On another note, I'll probably start befriending Haley due to all these comments. I guess being girls and talking crap about others would be fun here and there.

I just strongly wish Shane would get help and be a lot better after marrying him and saving him from his own death. Sigh

See, for some reason I don't see Abigail as emo? She seems a lot more "alternative" as her mom has described it. Don't mistake emo, goth, and alternative for each other. It's surprising, but they are all widely different. Abigail is what I would call a punk alternative style. Doesn't appear to be emo or gothic to me.

Though I can definitely see her being pastel goth or the "alternative" punk stereotype. Rebellious teenage girl.

These characters are being over analysed and judged on their beauty.

Are you referring to the girls that they had mentioned? I don't think anyone on here so far has judged purely on looks alone, but maybe a few. I at least think looks and inner self matters equally. However, in Harvey's case I think he is the best purely on his inner self and that's why he'd be the best husband material. I find Shane to be rather attractive looks wise, but his personality kinda stinks with his whole pessimistic outlook.
Have you considered the developer (singular, One man) might not have had significant experience being in a relationship with other men, and thus rolled with stereotypes?

I mean, not that I've married the girls, but from what I've witnessed the relationships with the girls aren't really any "better" in terms of stereotypes and flat relationships. I've married Shane and Elliot so far (does Shane have a ten heart scene? I could never find him in Marnie's to trigger the chicken scene so I was married to him before he even ever took me to the game...). In terms of physical attraction, Shane, Elliot, and Harvey all got me. I love me that facial hair. If I can't see the stubble in this game, dudes look like teenagers. Sam is a complete turn-off to me because he reminds me of my actual brother when he was 19-- can't blame him for not being in school, tho. I've warmed up to Sebastian a little bit, what with him being a freelance programer and his independence and all that. I've shied off Shane, which makes me really sad, since he became marriable. Never forget Shane pulling himself together without dating the farmer, RIP depressed but not overtly stated to be an alcoholic Shane from before the marriage patch, I will always miss thee. But all you really do for alcoholic depressed Shane is pull him from the side of a cliff and bring him to Harvey, he pretty much does all the mental health ♥♥♥♥ by himself. He's still kind of self-depricating after marriage and I am getting him to give me a Stardrop by forcing beer down his quitting throat, but besides that he's just as solid as the other marriage candidates. Elliot, I do have a particular liking towards still because of all the romantic things he says, but hey, I'm a writer. Out of the girls, I couldn't marry Abigail because my fiance married her in every save so she's boring af to me, I've seen all her dialogue and it's very suspiciously suddenly housewifey in a way that makes me actually uncomfortable... of the girls, personality-wise, only Hayley actually caught my attention... I guess I just have a thing for those standoffish characters and making them like me.

All of the marriage candidates are based on stereotypes, but really most of the characters are, and not just the marriage candidates.

I like Alex the most, and Sam second. The rest are meh.

Marlon would be interesting, It's sad that you don't get to actually talk to him.

Lack of experience isn't an excuse for underdeveloped characters.

Not to mention that the bachelorettes are stereotypes too, so that doesn't make sense.

He could have easily looked on the internet for tips on writing characters and romance.

Yes I've considered that but this is purely a discussion thread. Basically a thread on the thoughts and feelings towards the bachelors, and possibly bachelorettes.

It is applied that Shane is an alcoholic. Not heavily stated, but it's obviously there just like how Seb smoking is. I mean one of Shane's loved gifts is beer...and he really seems to be the only character to drink a ton of beer. Especially when he's in a bad mood or being simply pessimistic.

I do agree however that a lot of the male bachelors look quite young when I'm assuming the farmer is 25+ years old. Alex, Seb, and Sam all look to be highschoolers or fresh into college. Harvey has to be older due to the schooling required to be a physician. Elliot...idk he just looks older. Shane constantly talks of his age of being old or whatnot. The exceptions being Elliot, Shane(I mean he is living with his aunt, but he's renting the room at least), Harvey, and Leah.

Shane indeed does have a 10-heart scene. You both go to the bus stop and then go see a game.

I find it completely weird however that almost all the marriage candidates are living with family...I mean aren't you all suppose to be older, sheesh. I mean, a few of the marriage candidates could be younger but I really feel like some of them should be living on their own at this point or renting rooms at the most, not living with their parents or family still.

EDIT: Also, not all men can grow facial hair enough to actually have a nice looking stubble. I mean Sam more than likely can't since his father doesn't have any stubble either. Genetics from your parents and nationality plays a factor in facial and bodily hair for men as well as girls.
