Extreme framerate drops
There appears to be a extreme fps drop in the farm map, just after playing several days.
The fps quickly drops to 1 and just can't go well.
It only occurs in the farm map, the fps in the house and town map are normal.
This problem did not appear to me yesterday, but after today's patch.

So I have a solution for the massive lag on multiplay that the host suffers from.
I felt that I'd seen that sluggish lag before in a very similar game Terraria.
So I tried the fix that I use for Terraria and it worked just as good for Stardew Valley.

1. Look up StardewValley.exe under Details tab in the Taskmanager
(Ctrl+Shift+ESC)

2. Right-Click StardewValley.exe and click "Set Affinity", Uncheck Processor 0 and click OK.

3. Game should run flawless now.

Is it summer for you? I think this happens in the Summer season.

Edit: Many other threads suggest this is because of either the recycler or too many torches. Remove your recycler and see if it fixes it.

I have the same bug, I do too have recycler. I'll try to remove them and update you if that is the bug.

Posting here so I know your results about the recycler.
Be advised that the recycler issue may not be immediately fixed until you save the day and restart the game completely. So if you dont see an immediate improvement by removing them, go to bed and restart the game.

If you still wish to use recyclers, your best option is to put them inside a Shed, and only access that building during the day. After 6pm, you will have the same slowdown issue.

Had the same frame drops. Can confirm that for me it was the Recyclers.

I have the same framedrops with my friend in summer. We removed the Recycler, did go to sleep, restartet the game serveral times but we still have the same issue. Also if we go to bed there is a bug that the game wont let us sleep so we are stuck there (up til now my friends had to close up the game so we could at least save btu that cant be a solution to go close the game after each day :( )

Do you have any other light producing objects such as torches or forges outdoors? That might be responsible as well. It's proving to be a really difficult bug to nail down on a specific culprit.

As for the sleep issue, that may be due to desync. If a Farmhand's clock is running slow (lower framerate for example), you have to wait for their time to catch up to when the host went to bed for sleep to happen

Yeah we have some Forges (4 or 5) outside but up til now that wasnt a problem.
They are standing there for around 20 days or more and we didnt had the problem then. It just startet today (we removed the Recycler already). :/

Still shouldn't happen on a pixel art game. Wow.

Pixel art or Triple AAAYY, it's irrelevant when it's an unintended bug.

Not all performance issues are related to graphics...

Well, been having this issue as well. We ended up having to stop last night because I literally was unable to get across the farm map to get into a house on time for bed.

Will be removing the recyling machine, furnances were already moved inside. We're coming up on summer though, and I heard someone mention somewhere that lightning bugs might cause the same issue. We will have to see.

i have the same problem in winter i play at 3 FPS around my farm (only at night and at the end of the afternoon)
But inside my farmhouse no problem 60 FPS.
I remove every furnace + recyclers.
Still have the problem :(
Alice Fuyuko May 3, 2018 @ 8:19am
me and my bf have/had the same problem , frame rate droped down to one digit numbers as soon as it was night, so we moved the furnace and recyclers into the house, worked for a short time and then our houses got the frame rate drop issue, removed the recylcers recently now its working fine, the furnaces are still up and some mayonaise things. so i will probably build a new house just for recyclers :/
LemonadeLord May 3, 2018 @ 9:07am
I've place the recycler in my house and the framedrop did go away. I also notice light seem to reduce the frame at 6pm and later, so I've place my furnace in my house too.

I'll also recommend not placing torch outside or anything else that can produce light including equiping the ring that make light glow out of you.
