Shared Money Won't Work, and Here's Why
I've seen two other threads on this, but I wanted to make a constructive thread on the same topic, instead of bashing the game Dev or asking questions I already know the answer to.

I've been playing the mutiplayer mod for a few months now and the shared income is the sole reason I stopped playing.

Me and my friends have EXTREMELY diffrent playstyles and are always wanting to do our own things. spending money I earned my way was a priority. The whole reason I wanted to be able to play multiplayer is so that we can Trade, and help each other out without being directly subjugated to whatever the other person wants to buy. because of that during the mod I was tempted to keep a spread sheet of all income of all people just to solve this problem. I didnt want people spending all our money on trees when I wanted to buy seeds, or ingredients for kegs, or etc etc etc. Shared money pool would only work if individuality did not exsist. sadly though we are not a hive mind.

When you share income, Inevitably some people are going to be the ones making more than others, but when all there hard work is being spent by other people it leads to two outcomes:

1. stockpiling your items and selling them all at once to buy items so no one else can have your income.

2. you stop making income and derp around because all personal sense of progress is lost.

Stardew Valley has always been a game about options and playing the way you want, be it the prosporous farmer who is a social butterfly, or the mining hermit who never talks with anybody or even goes into town. I understand co-op is by definition more interactive with people, but cooperation comes in many forms, from busines agreements to spouses, and I would like the option to choose whether I share everything with my friends, or just some things.

TL;DR when everyone wants to have a say in where the money is spent, no one gets along.
Shared income will not work with 3-4 people

Or maybe there should be an option in the begining for the host to separate or shared the money. It would be good for playstyle variation.
Co op.

The clue is in the name. Work together. You make more money than your friends? They probably catch more fish or mine more ore.

These threads seriously disappoint me.

Look, the 10 lvl mine rewards are only given once per game. You have 4 sets of tools to upgrade. That means you have to "CO-OPERATE". You get better boots but the other player has the better sword, you have to "SHARE". We can only afford to upgrade one watering can, you have to "SHARE". If you don't want to co-operate and share, then don't invite your friends. Play single player.

but what if people want to instead of work side by side, compete side by side? It's a diffrent style of play but as I said before It is a sandbox game, where you choose how you play. The game shouldent force you to play cooperatively, and I would love to be able to trade, interact, and have fun with my friends without being subjugated by whatever they want to buy.

you can always have something to turn this money function on or off. just put in a different way of how players spend and gain money

This is exactly the point. For that to work you have to have one person decide where everything goes, which with some groups is not an option. With four people democracy does not work either. better to just make your own governing body with independance from the shackles of shared income.

That is the end goal of this thread.

I agree it should be something optional. I can play this way because I'm just with 1 friend, but I understand how it can be a problem with more people. Scaling profit would be even more interesting this way.

Your right, I don't want to "SHARE", I want to trade, help, and assist friends but in no way do i want to "SHARE" money. I was promised "MULTIPLAYER", not "CO-OP".

I don't understand how you want to seperate the player incomes. The main money source in the game is crops, is it whoever picks the crops first gets the money?

you can make money other ways, and you can section off the farm. if you plant the crops, unless your friends steal it, there your crops. take a corner of the farm and have fun.

Sounds more like you want an entirely different game where each person has a seperate farm. The map simply isn't big enough for splitting up the farm effectively.

Battle royale SV anyone?
Or a wierd PvP thats like offworld trading company/civlization?

A different game entirely indeed.

Or, as mature, intelligent, cooperative people. . .you set down limits on who is spending what.

Don't use the shipping bin and you can have each player track their personal money total and only use that much.

I personally don't care. I am just dragging my boyfriend into it so we have a game we can reasonably play together. I can always jump back to my personal farms if I want to actually get something accomplished.
