But I might be remembering wrong, it was a while ago.
Somewhere i read yiu can get 20 trees in that burder, but the best i could do was 18. Still, 18 peach trees make about 35000 gold with of jelly every three days in every season. Good winter income.
And that is on top of whatecer you plant ijn the middle.
Wish the dev would create a new dirt type called rocky soil that only trees can grow in and place some in the greenhouse. So that newbies and people who don't wiki know they can plant trees in the greenhouse. And not mistake it for an exploit/bug.
You can get 18 trees around the edge. Those 18 trees will produce 54 peaches in three days.
Coincidentally, three days is also how long it takes to make peach jelly, so you only need a shed with 54 preserves jars to make 54 jellys, and your jelly output will keep up with your peach production. With a batch every 3 days, you can produce 9 batches in a month for 54 * 9 = 486 jars of peach jelly, which will gross about 160000 a month (over 223,000 gold if you are an artisan.) Nice money for winter when your other crops dry up.
I would stress that this is not free money. You're still going to earn it. First, there are the up front costs -- 108,000 gold for the trees, and they won't produce anything for a month.
Preserves jars are easy to make, but you will still need 2700 wood, 2160 stone and 432 coal. You can spend the time to gather these yourself, or you can spend 135,000 gold to buy the materials from Robin and Clint.
Add in another 15,000 gold and 300 wood to buy the shed to put those preserves jars in.
Then there is the labor. You have to harvest those peaches every three days. If you don't, your harvest just sits there on the trees and you lose out on production. And every three days, you have to collect the jelly from preserves jars and start a new batch.
With up front costs and labor, this "exploit" is hardly a handout. You work for it.
You could, of course, just sell the peaches.
You can also make wine, but because the production time is more than twice the time required for jelly, you'll need twice as many casks and your up front costs go up accordingly. Plus, kegs require copper and iron and oak resin (and you have to make the oak resin yourself.
My peaches are going into preserves jars to make jelly, and I do not feel like I am using an exploit.
Well thats why he removed the bug before.
The only downside to having fruit trees in your greenhouse is they will not upgrade in quality for how old the tree is.
But if you are making your fruits into jelly or wine, quality of the fruit is not an issue.
It only makes a difference if you are selling the fruits themselves.
As long as you keg/preserve which you should be doing to nearly everything Mid-late game, it doesn't really matter.
