If you can describe your problem though, Im sure people here may be able to better assist you in your problem.
I've manually installed DX9.0c, I've attempted to install the XNA 4.0 executable from the link given in that thread and it's throwing up a .dll error during the installation. I let it finish anyway, I've restarted the laptop and I'll see what happens.
Edit: As expected, no go. What amazes me is that it no longer did the "First time Setup" garbage, but actually remained "Running" in text next to the game in the left library tab within Steam. It's like it was open, but wasn't. It closed about 30 seconds after. This is amazing, never seen anything like it.
I don't know what the hell else to do. For a new laptop to jump through this many hoops to get a game to launch is incredible. My only guess is that .dll for whatever reason not wanting to install from that XNA installer. I have no idea how to force it to, or if I'm able to manually download the .dll, put it in the folder it belongs and hope for the best.
Edit: Apparently you need to delete some obscure .dll in the Windows System folder for XNA to actually install properly. Found the information here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/413150/discussions/1/385428458169806482/
The "fix your game" thread should probably be updated.
Edit 2: XNA installed without error, restarted, still no go. Incredible. DX9C is installed, XNA is installed, what other ancient software does the game require? The only thing else I can imagine is installing every other damn version of DX.
Honestly, the game is notorious for not launching. Dozens of threads with pages of 10+ going back months, years. And you're first to blame a new laptop? LOL. It wasn't helpful at all.
I blamed a game with a history of launching problems, yes. I think that's reasonable given it was attempting to launch on a new system. Occam's razor suggests the game. The bias here suggests the system. Simple.
No it isn't. We'll have to disagree there. It's been a consistent issue. If it were "stable", I wouldn't be finding countless threads on these forums as well as the reddit. It's a timeline of instability, but hey, you're kind of precluded from seeing that.
Edit: Hey, what do ya' know? A brand new thread with crashes: https://steamcommunity.com/app/413150/discussions/0/1692669912393994510/
Thread from 3 days ago on the reddit:
https://old.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/8js6hw/it_wont_launch/
But it's a stable game though.
maybe try coming in with a friendlier attitude and you'll get one in return
glad the game works for you now though
I think you kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥ win bro.
Maybe drop the attitude and people would be inclined to do the same.
Stardew Valley doesn't start and I tried everything. The game starts with a white screen and closes after 4 seconds. No error logs. A few days ago the game worked perfectly and now I have this problem. It's so frustrating...
