How to get rid of the mayor's shorts?

So when I went into Marnie's room a while ago to get the mayor's lucky purple shorts, by some weird glitch, I picked up two of them (in a stack) in my inventory. I went to return them to the mayor, but that only consumed one of them. I was left with the second pair stuck in my inventory, where I could neither trash them nor discard them from my inventory. The only thing I could do was put them into a chest, where they remain to this day. How do I actually get rid of them?

(P.S. I'm using the beta)

Try putting them up at the display case.

were you playing with a friend? if so, give them to your friend and have them give them to the mayor

Here’s a question for you, why would you WANT to..? Some people probably would think it’s hot, but hey, I don’t judge

put them in the fall fair disply. When you take your things back after being judged, (& yelled at), leave them in the display. He will tell you to return them to him the next day, but do not remove them from the display. I did try to return them, but could not, so they are in a chest in my barn now

Ah this happened to me in a single player beta game - giving them to another player was not an option as it was a solo game - I was at least able to put them in a chest.

I gave 1 pair back to Lewis, was wondering whether I could use the 2nd pair in the grange display too - may try that :D

unless they patches this, put a chest infront of an NPC's door with the shorts in them. if anything is blocking their Pathing, it gets destroyed once they walk over it.

Hold on - you can put stuff in places other than on your farm? I've clocked up a huge number of hours but never realised this... (I should add I knew crab pots can go all over but never tried other things)

This is actually a really good idea. I'll try it and see if it works!
