It's amazing how many people like Penny.
She is just so boring as the hard working lonely girl you 'want' to save. At least she invites the player to ..... Spoilers.... that naughty tramp.

Everyone likes different characters, just because you think she's boring doesn;t mean other people do, everyone has different tastes and opinions

The reason why most people like her is because she's sweet and a bookworm, and her teaching/education others can be appealing as well.

The damsel in distress trope she's got is a really big turn-off, yeah.

I know! And if you misclick on the "wrong" option in her last heart event, you're down 1500 friendship points (6 hearts) 'cos she can't handle a, frankly, polite rejection. Same for the forest event if you say you don't like kids (admittedly, the wording is ruder).

For everyone else, the highest number of points you can lose for picking the wrong option is 50. Even in Maru's 10 heart event when you suggest slavery (well, that requires two wrong options at -50 each. Still totalling 100, far less than 1500).

Exactly, if she was stronger maybe my opinion would be different. What I'm about to say has nothing to do with SJW or Anti-SJW ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I'm way past that.

But the fact that every so other dialogue, is something like "Oh my sad life in a trailer", "Oh, I wanted a bigger place, like a farm","Oh, how sad is my life".

If in one of the cutscenes she had kicked her mother's teeth in I would respect her more. I mean, look at Linus, sure, he choose that life, but the man doesn't complain, sometimes he gets lonely, but other than that he is happier than a chick in the rain.

It's hard to be strong when you generally don't have any support/motivation/etc from other people, and even more so in an abusive situation, which Penny is in.

It could have been handled a lot better, but I doubt CA is going to add on to the bachelor/ettes.

I don't even understand why you felt the need to mention this. Nothing in this thread suggests SJW-rhetoric

I don't know, these days it seems you can't even put forth an opinion without being labelled one or another, but you're right.

At first I was going to go after Penny, but after seeing a couple scenes her terrible self-esteem problems were very apparent and I noped out!
Lena Feb 22, 2018 @ 8:59am
i think it boils down to your preferences. some people like penny, some people like haley, maru or leah for instance who all value certain qualities and pick them over the other.

i find abigail absolutely insufferable for example and i would pick penny over abigail anytime. however, there are seemingly a lot of people out there who like her. im fine with that. since i have a choice who i marry, it shouldnt really bother anyone why people like a certain bachelor.

Most of the other options are just as bad if people picked them apart as often as they do Penny.

Haley is vapid and shallow and her opinion only changes when she realizes she's not going anywhere and settles.

Abigail is spoiled rotten and acts like she's 13 when her life is made and spends all day fluting in the forest and throws a temper tantrum when her family tries to get her to engage with them.

Emily is bonkers, miss me with that new wave namaste voodoo crap

And that's just the females, the males can be equally terrible if you zoom in on them hard enough. It's fine if you like them, there's totally the freedom of choice and you can look past all those negatives to find the things you do like but don't harp on one character when none of the others are really prime catches themselves.

Iunno, I feel like I see these sorts of topics on her way more often than the rest

I've seen a few of different characters, I don;t pay attention to them, they don;t like that specific character, and that's their opinion, but honestly, they could have a favorite character that i despise, it would be my opinion, not much we can do about people ranting about characters, other than ignoring it.

Nope. I've seen waaaaaaaayyyy more topics critical of Haley than Penny, I've seen more criticism of shane's alcholic ways as well. Heck I've seen more about sebastion being an oversteroetypical goth than I have about Penny.

I thought people disliked Haley more. I like Emily the most, she doesn't have a lot of development but at least she doesn't bother anyone with her problems

Regarding placing characters under scrutiny and find them lacking, well, do you really think any character in this game has any complexity?

Sure, it deals with themes such as depression and PTSD, but its all shallow for everyone, to be honest I was surprised by how shallow since human interaction is the highlight of many reviews.

And finally I don't think the solution for every of world's problems to be the sudden appearance of a hunky farmer.
