OOOooo
Thanks. But why does Ancient Fruit show no profit on the chart?
Yeah, I have Artisan. I process everything, I have about 8 super barns full of kegs (which, I discoved, is not as much as you would think if you're making wine). I'm making preserves with the overflow, since even like 1,000+ kegs still leave me with a bottleneck of Ancient Fruit and Starfruit.
But I make Melons and Pumpkins for fun, and I have a backlog of thousands at this point. I was just wondering if they're an egregious waste of time (they seem middling, but they turn into wine/preserves).
Melons and pumpkins are decent if you've got nothing else. They make a good profit, and I'll often throw those wines in the cellar to age, that way you're still making the high level profits with the starfruit/ancient wines.
Starfruit is the best for wine, Ancient fruit makes the best preserves (You're getting them faster and using them faster).
Beyond those four, oranges and pomegranates make good artisan goods too. Or gifts.
for starfruit you just have to visit the desert for a constant flow of seeds.. or you turn your first harvest into seeds and so on and so on.
ancient fruits are a bit tricky to get your very first seed... after that it is the best to just plant it in the green house and multiply your plants from that very first seed as the plant it self will need a full season to mature and produce the first harvest.. after that it will take one week for the second harvest and again for the third.
i personally preffer ancient fruits because of the low initial costs (you get the first Seed and the reciepe from Gunther when you bring an Ancient Seed) and for the relatively short time to harvest and multiply the seeds.
pure cash wise i would go Starfruit but in long term i still prefer Ancients.
regards and best way to find out what your personal choice is... is testing it for your self.
In terms of individual crop, starfruit wine is the best with 3,150 (with artisan perk). But, if you look at the profit throughout the year...
- Assumption: Artisan perk with Deluxe speed gro, from Spring to Fall.
Ancient Fruit wine: 9 harvests: 2,310*9 = 20,790
Strawberry wine: 6 harvest: 503*6 = 3,018 (the best crop in spring)
Starfruit wine: 3 harvest: 3,150*3 = 9,450 (the best crop in summer)
Cranberry wine: 11 harvest: 315*11 = 3,450 (the best crop in fall)
Total: 15,933 per a plot.
Ancient Fruit = +4,857
This is what I was looking for, actually. But thanks to everyone else for their input (I read all your comments and took what you said in consideration, I asssure you).
I suspected it was Ancient Fruit, and I have 1,200 seeds set aside already for Year 5. I won't do the whole farm, I'll mix in a few other crops just for enterntainment value, but the vast bulk will be Ancient Fruit. Wine vs preserves is actually less controversial for me because I simply cannot generate resin fast enough. I'll make more wine as I get kegs but I'm making preserves whenever I'm bottlenecked.
::Edit: I have time to elaborate now::
Hops, unless you maximise from the very start of the season with Deluxe Speed Gro, have a higher profit ratio than Starfruit for the Summer. You don't have to replant them, and the Hops have more viability as a "Keep a stack" energy crop since you're getting so many of them for basically nothing.
Since you don't have to replant them and they're available /every day/, they make a good crop to fill out the nooks and crannies of a field with where you can stick a basic sprinkler with regardless of whether or not you're doing them as your main crop. Kept in the greenhouse they're even better, sicne you can line the greenhouse with the same number of kegs as you have trellises of Hops. It becomes a cycle of harvest hops, replace Pale Ale with the Hops, sell the Ale. With Ancient Fruit you're waiting much longer between payouts and you're getting less- with Starfruit you have to factor in the cost of the seed (or the effort of muaking your own seeds/lost profits for doing so) and the fertilizer. Outside the greenhouse, Starfruit just barely edges out Hops in terms of raw money production, but again, that's if you start right out the gate with the Deluxe Speed Gro and can get your entire crop in lightning quick each time you harvest/replant.
Hops come close, but it does not beat ancient fruit.
Again with the same setting, Deluxe speed gro, artisan perk, plants at the first day...
Pale ale: 20 harvests: 420*20 = 8,400
Starfruit wine: 3 harvests: 3,150*3 = 9,450
And, as I explained above, Ancient fruit is a better than Starfruit wine.
But, pale ale is ridiculously profittable crop. After pale ale, next profittable crop is blueberry jam/wine with roughly 3,500 (16.5 harvest: 210 * 16.5 = 3,465).
And keep in mind we're talking raw gold payout. So I'm not concerned whether I lose money growing something and turning it into wine or preserves, just that I generated a large payout in gold at the end of it.
My farmer has 28 million on hand, with 56 million generated total by Winter 14th, Year 4. I'm trying to beat 175 million by Summer Year 7. It seems doable (made most my money during year 4 when the keg barns and stuff reached critical mass at the end of year 3).I'm still pretty bottlenecked but I have three more barns almost ready. I also made the mistake of thinking I'd have enough resin if I just tapped a ton of trees from the getgo and I could make only wine. Can't be done. Need to supplement with preserves, otherwise you'll never get rid of your backlog.
I don't know how hops can be the best crop, when you also have to consider spring and fall crops.
Spring: Strawberry wine is the best crop with 6 harvests: 3,018. It's better than one harvest of ancient wine, which is 2,310. But, if there is insufficent kegs, and you have to rely on jar, strawberry jam is the best with 2,436. Not much difference from a single harvest of ancient fruit.
Summer: The best is starfruits (3,150*3=9,450). Second is ancient fruits (2,310*4=9,240). And, third is hop (420*20=8,400).
Fall: This is when ancient fruits dominate with 9,240. Second best is cranberry wine with 3,465. The best jam is cranberry jam with 3,080.
FYI, if you harvest 1,200 ancient seeds for 2 years, you will end up with slightly less than 50 mils. That means, you need to generate about 70 mils outside of farming to reach 175. It will be a quite challenge to reach 175 mils by summer year 7.
Hmm. Maybe I screwed up already?
There are other things supplementing income, but nothing that will cover a 70 million gap. Mgrgrgrgr.
If you plant hops on day 1, you'll get what, 16 harvests? So 16 pale ales, 4800 profit per tile. Starfruit gets 2 harvests, so 4500 per tile. The seed price also brings it down to 3700g per tile, since you need to spend 800g on seeds.
However, like I said, you need a LOT of kegs. If you plant 100 starfruit, you need 100 kegs. If you plant 100 hops, you'll need 1600 kegs - or to change them 16 times.
Hops are better money for more work. Starfruit is a good amount of money for something you just need to check every week or two.
Well, pig farms will help. I have 42 pigs, and they generate 100+ truffles per a day. 100 iridium truffles * 75 days (estimation) * 2 years will provide close to 20 mils. Cast will help a bit too. But, that's still good 40-50 mils to make. If you restart, you can reach 175 mils with few tweaks here and there. 4 years of ancient fruits * 1,200 plots, and 5 years of 100+ truffles * 75 days per a year will be 150 mils at the end of year 6. You will easily make more than 25 mils in 6 years with green house and other methods. I am also doing money run, and I made 11 mils by end of summer year 2. If you ever want to look at it, search for "Kwanshim" at upload.farm. Hope that helps.
You can harvest hops 20 times, and starfruits 3 times with deluxe gro.
20 pale ales * 420 (with artisan perk) = 8,400. If seed price is considered, 8,340.
3 Starfruits * 3,150 = 9,450. If seed price is considered, 8,250.
If seed price is a factor, hop is slightly better than starfruit. But, that difference will be quickly made up by hrs you have to spend on harvesting hops every day.
