- Plant at least a few of each crop available to you from Pierre's. It's always smart to save about 5 to 10 of each different crop in a chest, because they can come in handy year-round for things like birthday gifting and cooking. :)
- Speaking of cooking - check your television every day! Queen of the Sauce episodes teach recipes straight into your cookbook, including some that only air once in the entire year. So even before you get a kitchen, check that tv!
- Rainy days are your friend! You won't need to water any crops, so these days are perfect for digging for artifacts (worms in the dirt) and mine adventuring!
- You can also use the Fortune telling to find out how your luck will fare in adventuring, and Living On the Land gives you helpful tips for being a pro-farmer.
- Fishing is a great way to make money initially! It can be a little tricky to get the hang of at first, but stick with it, and soon, you'll be able to use Tackles and Bait, which make it much easier! :)
- Unless you're specifically trying to unlock an Achievement, please be wary and do not buy a Joja Membership Card. :( You can purchase things from the shop, but going that extra mile will permanently hinder your ability to complete your Community Center. So please be careful of this!
I may add more as I think of them, but for now, I hope these help! It's honestly such a fantastic game, and I'm geekily proud of my ~400 hours, baha. So happy to see more people discovering this gem of a title!
Oh, also if you dig up a Dino egg, save it until you have an upgraded coop, and stick it in the incubator. It's a little extra, and free, gold.
Stardew Valley is one of the few games I've ever played that totally warrants having a Wiki, in a style similar to WoW or Minecraft. So it's definitely a good idea to pop StardewValleyWiki.com into your bookmarks, to always have quick access to a bunch of things like Villagers favorite gifts and fish collection guides :)
yeah i noticed its very much like the escapist / minecraft by how crucial the wiki is. Thanks for the bookmark aswell!
Your pond holds trash, but don't throw away too much of it. You'll find uses for them as time goes on.
I do suggest to make friends with Sam. One of his heart scenes will only be able to be seen in Year 1 but not in Winter. You have to see it before then. The others have no specific need to see the heart scenes, so you can relax about them a bit.
Hoarding is your friend. A lot of times you won't know what you'll be asked for a favor, so make sure like Meowsifer said, to at least have so many in a chest.
You can color code the chests at the top (When you are in the screen to place items inside) to separate them. We are getting signs soon in a new update, so it might be easier for now to color code them.
The selling box in your farm will give you money when you go to sleep, but you can sell to the actual towns people for instant money. Be careful with fishing rods, you can't resell them to the person who sells it to you. (Found out the hard way myself from accidental click)
When it's blackberry or salmonberry season, go foraging like mad. They can be used for production on your farm or easy mining food-supply.
Star qualities are Normal, Silver, Gold, and Iridum. The higher it is the more valuable. Iridium is the highest it can go, Normal being the lowest.
Don't sell geodes, it can be opened by the blacksmith to get minerals.
This is all I can think of for now. Happy Farming!
Also, if you want, there's a book that is really useful in information just like the Wiki. It's helped me quite a lot.
My biggest tip as a player, is planning. Whatever farm you decide to do, plan it out. Plan everything out, from where your buildings go, to where you will place decorations. You will soon find out that your farm can get real small real quick if you don't plan out your farm, or you might end up with not enough space in one area, so now you need to remove planting area to make room for something different.
To solve this issue, I suggest looking at some of the guides online about how to plan your farm. Look for the one that is most Economical and not just the one that looks pretty.
As a secondary tip, I suggest keeping on top of your personal gear for when you go deeper in the mines. Spend just a little to upgrade your stuff and keep going, The deeper you go, the better stuff you can get. And some of the monsters can even be farmed for Iridium ore and Ingots. Having good gear can keep you out of the annoying Skull Cavern.
Don't fret over the 2 year limit. Unlike some of the other farming games, you can keep going. I've got a 5 year farm running right now and I rake in about 1M a year. As long as you have a Diamond, you can always take it to Grandpa's Grave and have him reasses your progress. You'll still get the completion statue.
Just play the game how you want to. Don't fret over anything and trudge on how you want to. Take your time in your first save. Don't worry about the time constraints.
2. Mining is very important. You will need a lot of gold/iron/bronze bars for crafting.
3. Speaking of mining, you can get the first stardrop at 100th floor. Critical for max energy cap.
4. The most profittable animal is pig.
5. Start collecting oak rasin early. Artisan goods sells for tons of money, and to do that, you need a lot of kegs, which requires oak rasins.
6. You can change portraits easily.
Spring:
Summer:
Fall:
Winter:
There's no crops during winter because the ground is too frozen, so spent winter on fishing, mining or advanturing! It's a good time to get the friendships up because you have the time to track everyone down and to get coops with animals and such up and running (remember to have plenty of hay for them!! I keep forgetting and have to buy more from Marnie. Just buy a ton of grassstarters at Pierre's and make sure your silo is full when winter comes - and if it's full, take the hay out, place it in a chest next to the silo and harvest more so you have enough to fill it three times. Then you should have more than enough for three barns or coops full of animals). Winter is wonderful time to do the community center quests too.
1. when you reach income of 25000 demetrius will come and set up cave resources for you. i suggest choosing mushrooms than fruit bats, because mushroom are harder to find and you can always plant fruit trees later, they are easier to get.
2. the worms sticking out from a dirt is called Artifact spot. make sure you always bring hoe to dig them.
3. when you reach winter later, plant lots of wild winter seeds. i used to hate winter now i like it most, because my biggest income is during winter (from those seeds!) even my spring + summer + fall income is nothing compared to the winter alone lmao
4. dont get downed if people rejecting you to dance during first year's flower dance :P technically its hard to get someone to dance with you unless youre lucky getting their loved gifts or help quests to raise their hearts before 24th spring.
5. repair the bridge at the beach ASAP! it will help you getting money during early game
