Legend fish tips/advice
Hi guys!

I feel I've been fishing well across my first year in game, but then I tried going for the Legend fish and it makes the Scorpion Carp and Lava Eel look like fishing Smallmouth Bass in comparison!! I'm currently Lv 9 fishing, using Trout Soup to get to 10 and then go and attempt the fishing. Using regular bait and the tackle that causes fish to escape slower when not being reeled in. Got the iridium rod..

I would really appreciate any feedback or advice regarding the best tackle, fishing strategy, etc as it's going to rain tomorrow in my save and I want to get the fish now rather than waiting a whole year for Spring to come around again. Thank you!

I'd suggest you go back to catching regular fish (especially sardines) until you reach fishing level 10. Then buy the hashbrown recipe from the saloon and make dish o' the sea. That combination raises your fishing level to 13 and you do need it to be that high to give yourself a chance. You'll just have to hope for another rainy day.

Finally - keep trying until you make the catch.

My personal preference is Dish 'O The Sea (gives +3 fishing for 5 minutes) and a Iridium Rod loaded with regular bait and a Cork Bobber for tackle (increases the size of the fishing bar up to 25% which makes it slightly easier to stay on top of the fish when it is darting up and down quickly). OOH it has to be raining too i think also so a rain totem might help. Yeah it is hard to catch also because it is a small time window during the day and does not give you a lot of tries in a day. Haha I also tried carrying a rabbit foot in my main inventory bar but idk if that actually helps luck... I wish you lots of luck in your goal of catching it!:tabbycat:

Thank you guys for the responses! So I went out with Lv 9 and Trout Soup again, with bait and Trap bobber or whatever it was.. geared up for a day of fishing and I caught the Legend fish, first try, at 8.20 am, on a Spirits are Mildly Perturbed day... I'm still annoyed at how the game has trolled me here!!

It's obviously a skill-based mini game but there seems to be a huge element of luck. In the past attempts it would sink down quickly and then dart up to the extreme ends constantly many times and I just wouldn't catch it. On this attempt however, it was just fidgeting in the middle and I got it.

It's normal to take several tries on most of the Legendary Fish before you can land one. You should really plan on it being an all-day event; if it's not, great, but you may very well have to get it on your rod 10+ times. The only real technique advice I can give is to resist the temptation to 100% go chasing after the fish as it dances around the bar; it's too fast. Instead, remember that it's sometimes better just to watch it for a moment and stay put. Keep your bar as close to the middle as you can, and try to keep your movements to small adjustments when it happens to be hanging in one spot for more than a few seconds. If you're going to have to hold the button down for longer than a second or two, it's too much to commit to.

The fish is almost never at one extreme direction or the other for long; it'll instead tend to be like 8/10 of the way in one direction. Staying in the middle will make it easier. Eventually, luck in the fish's behavior and the fact you aren't fighting a losing battle of trying to keep up with it in every last movement will mean you net it.

Can't agree more, I was following the fish to the extreme at my first try, although I got very lucky with my winning attempt I kept my bar in the middle and I wasn't planning on chasing it to the top or bottom unless it was within reach and going to be there for a short while.
