How to get abigail to like me (aka the player)?

Talk to her around every other day.
Buy her a bouquet from Pierre's at 8 Hearts and give it to her.
Also give her Quartz. Very common in The Mines and she likes it.

The way friendship works is on a point system. I don't know the exact values, but rough estimate...

Let's say you need 200 points to get 1/10 hearts with her. If you talk to her, you gain 20 points. If you give her a liked gift, like quartz, you get 40 points. If you give her a loved gift, like amethyst, you get 80 points. So if you talk to her twice and give her 2 amethyst per week, you'll gain roughly 1 heart per week. If you talk to her every day, and give her 2 loved gifts every week, you'll gain 140 + 160 = 1.5 hearts per week.

Most NPC cutscenes have dialogue choices, and choosing the best option can gain you an extra 50 points or so. Giving them a birthday gift counts as triple points, so you'd get 2-3 hearts, I think.

Again, I don't know the exact point values, it's just an example. :P

The NPCs in Stardew Valley are very materialistic :p

You CAN build your friendship up with them by just talking to them once each day, but that'll take a long time. The fastest way to someone's heart in the valley is to give them things. A lot of things. Find out what they like and give it to them, twice a week, plus an extra gift on their birthday (doesn't count to the weekly limit), and they'll fall head over heels in love with you.

Abby also likes a lot of the foragable flowers, apparently they're actually rather delicious. Normal ones not so much, they must not make a good snack.:P

Amethyst, pumpkins, spicy eel, pufferfish, and chocolate cake I think are her specific loved gifts. (outside of prismatic shards, rabbits feet, and golden pumpkins which everyone loves)
If you can make sure to gift her quality pumpkins and pufferfish. They do have a bonus if starred.
Otherwise there are a ton of things she simply likes fruit you've grown or basic gems.
I married her and I just keep a crystalarium with an amethyst growing in it inside the house to give to her daily.

If you were curious birthdays are 8x points and if you get someone as a winter star recipient its 5x points. birthdays are HUGE

Patience also helps. It takes a little while to get people to like you, so do not expect to be best friends within two weeks.
