Riverland Farm?
Riverland farm is hands down my favorite map. It's easily the most attractive and it helps my aesthetically-challenged brain to organize my farm better than the other layouts.

But my practical-minded brain always wonders. Is there an actual POINT to the map? There are other maps that offer fishing opportunities, and they also provide resources of their own to go with it. Does riverlands offer any kind of advantage that I'm missing?

Easiest map to refill water, most area to fish from, and you get RIVER fish vs what types the other maps give.

Pond in the Forest map for example, catches the fish from the Cindersap Forest pond (map south of farm) with the addition of possibly catching Woodskip as well.

So really it would come down to what type of fish you want to catch I guess.

The forest map just gives wild gathering resources and hardwood, which mind you can't cut without the first axe upgrade.

The mountain one gives you your own small quarry to mine, but the spawn rates are based on your mining skill, so it might not be so great for easy early mid-late game materials.

The wilderness one just spawns monsters at night just like the cave, which is something you can unlock for the other maps or turn off.

All the maps have a cave you can unlock either fruit bars or mushrooms for.

So it basically comes down to which resources you want easy access to, or aesthetics. I had the same idea as you, but ended up going with the forest for easy berries for jams and drinks.

The point is challenge, the limitation of usable (particularly tillable,) space compared to the standard farm makes you come up with more creative solutions to problems, that can be said about all of the different farms, really.

It can change things up for you if you're finding yourself a bit tired of the same thing. You can think of it as turning up the difficulty a tad.

For the Riverland farm particularly, I quite like how you can pretty much always be fishing in your downtime. If you're ever idle for anything, pull out your fishing rod and catch a smallmouth bass or two, maybe a pike, earn a little extra, or make it into sashimi. It's also very easy to enclose areas for animals, just have gates at the bridges and you're golden.
Wilderness farm. If I'm not getting combat experience outside the caves I'm still getting loot by killing things. Fortunately the dangerous red creatures don't tend to head down to my farm. It was worth it for the huge area of usable space.
