Considering how few children there are in The Valley from the start, the mayor is apparently firing blanks. Then again, one wonders where all those babies that can be adopted come from...

Sorry I forgot Jodi and Kent and Demeterius and his wife (sorry) which makes my original point far less sustainable.

So I'd guess that "on the job" is meant to be taken literally (in context) and is not (intentionally) intended as a euphemism.
Just a guess on my part though.
Why not simply say "I work seven days a week" ? A lot of Brit culture goes stateside via our sitcoms, or used to. I'm pretty sure the double entendre was entirely intended.

Those are all pretty normal predicaments though, they aren't anymore British than they are American.
"I'm on the job" is also used the exact same way here, but the euphemism is generally reserved for working girls, not just sleeping around. If the double meaning is intentional its more than likely just another cheecky hint at Lewis and Marnie's relationship. The guy did leave his shorts at her place after all, its usually the other way around.
Hi RobbE,
From reading various Wikis there are hints in the game that Marnie isn't Mayor Lewis' only lover - some are very subtle and some are very rare.

Which would be? All of her dialog basically revolves around either carpentry, her husband, or Sebastian's health. Obviously he isn't Demetrius's, but there's nothing pointing to Lewis either, or anyone for that matter.
Given how similar he and Abby are, my suspicions have always been on the wizard. Clearly he's not above dating married women after all.
What are these hints at Lewis cheating on Marnie?
So many inappropriate wood/carpentry/tool puns, so little time...
Are we SURE Concerned Ape isn't a Brit ?
