Only a couple people have 4K monitors, and it isn't required.
I'm in love with the 21:9 curved monitors. I suspect these will get really popular, especially in offices/business.
Developers need to prepare for the flood of weird aspect ratio monitors coming, and coming soon, along with a spike in 4K.
So better to support it sooner than later.
I would be perfectly happy if it would simply launch with the settings I had working at exit. It does run 4k just fine once you trick it. I shouldn't have to trick it.
I have plenty of games, dating back to 2007 so far, that are running 4k with simple changes in their normal ingame graphics settings. In fact, this is the only title so far that has given me any real issues.
Since you have Windows 7, you should try this if you haven't already as well: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff629368.aspx
