The slime hutch itself is, mainly, for gathering slime balls. Put your worthless green slimes in there and let them reproduce to the maximum of 20. You'll get like 60 slime per day to make more eggs or fishing bait. You can sell the excess crap eggs.
Take the good eggs (red and purple) and breed them OUTSIDE the hutch. The hutch can only hold 20, but you can raise hundreds outside. So for example, you could put 10 purple slimes in a pen outside, and a season later you'll have 50 purple slimes. Kill 40 of them for some "free" iridium and diamonds, and leave 10 to continue breeding.
