Coop or Silo First
I recently bought Stardew Valley and I'm on the 23rd day of Spring. I have an assignment that tells me I need to get a Coop. But from what I've learned the Silo is a good source of feed for animals you purchase. Be free to correct me if I'm wrong. Now my main question, should I get the Silo or the Coop first?

The silo is ideal to get first because then as you cut down grass it automatically converts to animal food and is stored in the silo for easy retrieval inside a coop or barn. Otherwise you have to buy the feed elsewhere and carry it around for placing inside the feed bins, or let your animals out to eat free range grass. They will only go out on in good weather though, so you'd still be left having to manually deal with the full process in any inclement weather or winter. I always get a silo first and stock it up before building a coop or barn.

I go for the Silo first, mostly because that way I don't waste the hay created by clearing the grass to make room for the coop. But the only season that you need hay is winter, so it's not urgent.

You need hay for rainy days in addition to winter.

I buy a silo or two fairly early and don't get around to building the coop until fall, with the barn shortly after. There's no rush to complete any of the journal quests. In fact, if you don't want to raise animals you can always ignore that quest.

You'll mainly want to let your animals outside to eat grass; they are happier with grass over hay. But, you'll need hay anyways, and silos will deliver hay to the hopper in the coop and barn. After upgrading to the deluxe version the hay from your silos will be placed directly into the feeding trough.

Silo.

Its very cheap to build, and hay can be rather expensive. So its better to stock them early.

I got the coop first and was very low on money the first year. Feeding my animals was a nightmare and I was constantly rushing back and forth to buy hay and give it to them. Once I got a silo, a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders and it made life a lot easier. <3 Since the silo is pretty cheap and useful, I suggest buying it first.

What I had done is I buit 4 silos and filled them throughout the year and once it was winter it was then that I got a coop and barn. I was able to make Money with crops and when winter came I didn't have to use a single penny to feed my animals.

Best way is to go Silo>Coop/barn depending on which one you want to farm animal wise. No one really bothers with the coop queast anyway. Don't build 2 silos. Once you have your first coop/barn just set a chest inside next to where you get the hay out. when your silo gets filled up to 250 just remove it by hand and place in the chest. Hay stacks to 999 in a chest but 250 in the silo for some dumb reason. Then when you need hay in the silo you can just put it back in. Also you may want aleast one coop/barn not fully upgraded so you can keep removing hay. fyi!

Dont decimate entire patches of grass leave tufts to expand

Yeah, what MisterElm said. Build a silo, but make sure to not cut down your grass until AFTER the silo is built, that way it turns into hay.

I will give you 2 options and their requirements.
1. Silo. You need to have a trick for getting resources fast.
2. Coop. You need to have a trick for getting lots of money to buy hay until you build a silo.
