3. Probably like a 1/25-50 drop. They aren't particularly rare. You'll usually get at least 1 per day from my experience while mining.
4. Depends on how you want to use it. Typically, you want to get a Slime Charmer ring ASAP, which requires you kill 1000 slimes then visit the Adventurer's Guild. Otherwise, you can build a fence around your slime incubator, preferably with two gates - go in the south gate to lure them down there, then run back out, close the gate behind you, then run into the north half to put an egg in. The Slime Charmer ring will make them not attack you. Once you get a breeding pair, you can just wait, and they'll eventually fill the hutch to a maximum of 20. (Probably will take about 1 season if you don't add more eggs.) Fill the water troughs every day for slime. It's 1 trough per 5 slimes. So if you have 7 slimes, they'll drink 2/4 water troughs per day, so you can just check it every 2 days.

However, if you want to breed slimes for LOOT, then you have to breed them outside. (Or at least, it's more efficient to.) Set up a large breeding pen, at LEAST a 5x5 square plus a 7x7 fence around it. Keep adding slime eggs OF THE SAME COLOR and they'll breed. It's a snowball effect. You'll start with 2, then have 5, then 10, then 25, then 50... Once you get to around 50, I say head in with your sword and slaughter them back down to about 20 slimes. If you kill reds, you should get a good bit of coal and diamonds. If you kill purples, you should get a bit of iridium ore.

If you just want eggs, or crafting materials for fishing or whatever else uses slime, then just set up a hutch. A full hutch (20 slimes) should get about 60ish slime per day, plus a petrified slime or two. You need 100 slime to make 1 egg. So if you have 6 hutches, you'll get 5 eggs per day usually, worth at least 5k per day just for refilling their troughs.

You CAN put your outdoor breeding pen anywhere, but they're more likely to escape off the farm, from my experience. What some people do is once they unlock the quarry up by the mines, they build a fence around it, put floor tiles down so rocks don't spawn, and have a MASSIVE slime breeding pen there. Much, much easier to kill them if you have the slime charmer ring, though.
