Some of my crops turning brown?
Not sure if they are dying or what,

But about 12 crops on 300 turned brown, and it doesn't seem like they are growing.

What is going on? This is in the middle of the summer...

Lightning strikes? Get some lightning rods.
Nakos Dec 2, 2016 @ 4:04am
Yeah, those are dead.

Sometimes it happens.

Often that means they got hit by lightning. Did you notice it after a rainy day? Try putting up some lightning rods. They're fairly cheap to make and ... you can get batteries from them, batteries are REALLY useful.

This is the result of lightning strikes which occur in stormy weather.
As far as I know, even Lightning Rods can't prevent damage from lightning strikes (this could have changed with updates, I don't know), as their purpose serves solely to make Battery Packs.

Mmm... that's a pre-release tweet. There have been a number of patches since then.

The Wiki says that Lightning Rods do indeed have a chance to intercept Lightning strikes, meaning your crops are less likely to get damaged if you have them.

I have 12 lightning rods placed around greenhouse (just for aesthetics) and that should be enough to soak all the lightning strikes that come during storm. Maybe it's overkill too, but they weren't too expensive.

Other thing that can ruin crops is crows. You need to place scarecrows outside and inside of crop fields.

With these around i went spring so far with 0 ruined crops.

Oh! Yeah, now I see it, this has been changed in Update 1.07. Nevermind then, you can ignore my post. My apologies about the misinformation.

I have plenty of scarecrows, it's not that. Must have been a storm, even though it feels the browns are spreading or something... there has only been a single storm this summer.

What is the range of the lightning rods for protection? I have some north, but they might be too far... Wiki has no information on range.

Whole map. But lightning rod can only protect from one lightning per day (lightning doesn't hit rod again until you collect battery from it) and only with a chance, so each consecutive lightning has more chance to hit non-rod as you will have less rods that can accept lightning.
But to strike 12 crops? That should have been some (un)lucky (it was written somewhere that luck affects amount of lightning strikes, but I'm not sure how) storm with less than 5 lightning rods that can catch lightning...

And I don't know of any other reason crops can become brown.

Some of the foarge crops are brown as they grow and will often look dead but aren't. Some of them grow pretty slowly as well. Toss up a screen shot if you want and then we'll know for sure.

ahhhh it wa surely that... i destroyed them, but ill make sure to pay attention next time.

Kinda unfortunate that they designed live crops to look like dead ones...

If you're unsure if a crop is dead or not, swipe your scythe over it. If it's dead, the scythe with clear it away, but if it's alive, it won't do anything but a wiggle a little.

Genius! Thanks. :)

Didn't know that either, and might have never tried scything near living plants anyway. ty
