Missing chicken, and other chicken questions.
All right so my chickens come out in to the fenced in area like i set up for them to do. However i didnt notice that fences break down over time so i figured i would just have them go back inside and live there for the rest of there egg laying lives. I have my silo now so I can just feed them that way everyday instead of them eating grass from outside.

We can start with question number 1. I can not figure out how to get the damn things back inside and pushing them is a little hair pulling while grinding some teeth. So......how the hell do I get the buggers back in side the coop.

2. I closed the coop door and went to bed to see if they would all be inside in the morn, however either this be a odd coinky dink or bad timing whatever it may be but i heard growling and howeling before waking up and now im missing a chicken...does anyone know what that was, is the chicken dead? Gone? did a monster/fox/alien grab it in the night? Kind of upsets me because I just got them. So i only have 1 chicken now after having 2.

Just wait till 6 pm , they will get inside alone.

1. They go back inside the coop by themselves around 6pm or so, assuming the door is open.

2. Not sure I follow your train of thought... You locked them out, and assumed they'd teleport back inside the coop overnight? :P Yeah, a wolf got it. It happens pretty rarely, so you really just got unlucky there... There's a weird formula for a wolf gobbling an animal up, but as long as they're all inside before you close the door, the wolves can't get them.

Oddly enough, the wolves don't bother them even if the door is open... so there's no real downside to leaving the door open constantly, unless they're in your way or something.

Animals generally don't wander too far anyways, the fence is more for convenience than necessity.

Sorry for your loss, though :(

So they dont wander very far? When they lay eggs those will always be inside the coop right? Every day at 6 they auto track back inside the coop?

The eggs are always inside the coop, yes. (Along with rabbit fur, duck feathers, etc.)

The animals tend to stay within 15 spaces of the barn, but sometimes they wander waaaay far away, for no explainable reason. I usually keep mine inside once my farm gets large, but leave the door open at the beginning of the game.

Very rarely, your animals will wander to the opposite end of the farm, and for whatever reason not be able to find their way back. I'm not sure why the AI can get there but not get back. It's a rare occurence, but it does happen.

There's reasons a lot of people hate the animals in this. :P A lot more work compared to raising crops, and a bit less profit.

One strategy I developed animal wise was to keep my animal buildings away from my crops (for the most part). But I would suggest letting them out everyday though when it's clear outside and not winter because it helps improve their mood and petting them improves their mood too and you're more likely to get bigger and better quality products.

Only animal, who's product appears outside, are truffles found by pigs, but they're always in a clear area. Pig is the last animal you get though because it's the most expensive, but their products produce the most money though.
