I have no idea, I just read it around here. I'll check.
Looking at the wiki, there's no mention of it, so it may not be true. Maybe they misread the part about crops that yield multiple items in a harvest not giving EXP for additional items and thought it applied to all future harvests too?
Well then, I might just reach level 10 Farming off of those Strawberries after all.
Sadly the first harvest only yielded two extras. 120 plants, 122 Strawberries!

But it should have propelled me from level 0 Farming to level 5 Farming.
Edit: yes, level 5. I didn't sell the Strawberries right away knowing that I'd be able to select Tiller that very evening, making them worth 10% more the next day.
No foraging, but yes, I pretty much just fished until Day 13.
My rules for this one were:
Not allowed to gain Foraging EXP (lightning destroying a tree is OK)
Not allowed to gain Combat EXP
Not allowed to gain Mining EXP (a few rocks to unblock farm exits is allowed)
Not allowed to buy from Clint (selling, processing geodes and upgrading tools is allowed)
Not allowed to farm outside of the Greenhouse
First goal was getting the Greenhouse.
Second was buying 120 Strawberry Seeds.
Third is to unlock the Sewers so I can buy Iridium Sprinklers. I'll be working on that in the coming days.
Fourth is to complete all Joja upgrades. That should come eventually... just not that quickly since I've crippled my income by planting all these Strawberry plants.
Didn't really plan beyond that. Mainly it was just to see how it would all play out.
How did you made money to buy greenhouse in 12 days + 120 strawberries?
I've achieved getting a greenhouse early autumn following the Community Centre route, but to have one by day 11 in a new game is impressive.
Fishing has a mostly flat progression; it doesn't pay much in the late game, but in the early game it gives way more gold than anything else.
Interestingly, I only opened one set of geodes and simply sold the rest. Opening a geode essentially costs its base value plus 25g (75g for regulars, 125g for Frozen and 175g for Magma), so you can either make some gold or lose some gold when you open one. In the case of Frozen Geodes, you usually lose gold.
But mostly it's the time that I couldn't spare; a trip to the Blacksmith costs hundreds of gold in time that I could spend fishing instead. I only went on the day that I got my Joja membership.
Now that I've reached my gold targets, I open all geodes so I can donate to the museum. It's going to be tricky getting 60 Artifacts and Minerals without killing anything.
Since I wasn't going to use any land, I picked the Riverlands farm for easy access to the River (Town) water type. I fished there on the 2nd and 3rd to get to Fishing level 4, then I moved to the Mountain Lake because the fish are worth much more there.
I went back to fishing in the River (Town) water type when it rained because, instead of the usual 30g/50g fish values, it turns into 50g/60g/200g when it rains. That's better than the Mountain Lake's 30g/50g/75g/100g and there's no walking involved.
I could have gone for Legends instead, but that's letting the RNG dictate how much gold you're going to get. I prefer the reliability of regular fishing.
I don't really need gold anymore so now I can just fish wherever I want.
Only on a long playthrough.
It takes a whole season for an Ancient Fruit plant to grow and yield its first fruit. The first many harvests are going to need to go into a Seed Maker for more seeds, which will also take at least three weeks grow. Even assuming you got a decent number of Ancient Seeds to get started, it'll take at least half a year to fill your Greenhouse, during which you're not making a single gold piece.
With Strawberries, in that half year, I'll have made 300,000g. That's in addition to my fishing. It's way more than I need and, to be honest, the playthrough probably won't even last that long.
IMO the best options for the Greenhouse are Starfruit or, if you don't mind the work, Hops.
Yes in the beginning I also planted lots of other stuff in there like strawberries or starfruits, but with the time I could make enough ancient seeds for the greenhouse, they bring alot of gold AND you don't need to replant them!
But it was the best for my playthrough, and even if you just plant them, you'll make over 430,000 g in half a year! Even starfruits bring only 270,000 g (if you consider the costs for the seeds). And hops are impractical, since you can't reach the plants inside!
Hops are way, way more valuable than Ancient Fruit, so even with just 80 Hops plants you make as much as with 116 Ancient Fruit, and they start producing after less than two weeks (rather than in more than half a year). And like Iron Monkey says, you can use the rest of the space to plant other things for extra profits; it's not wasted.
I really dislike Ancient Fruit in the Greenhouse. Yes, it's great for long playthroughs; my first playthrough, which lasted over 2 years, has a Greenhouse with 116 Ancient Fruit. But otherwise, it's just too freakishly slow.
