[SOLVED] 350+ catches and no catfish

Raining, secret wood pond, summer. Says on the wiki it should be available, as does my ui mod, but I just can't seem to get it to hook. Is it only in the deep or shallow parts of the pond?

I have lvl 10 fishing, Iridium rod, standard bait, no tackle (never use them)

The wiki does say it should be possible, but...

It's a very unique situation in multiple ways. It's the only case of a fish appearing out of season, and then only for one specific location, and in addition to those, it says that the Catfish does not appear in autumn when it would normally be in season.

My best guess is that the dev originally made a mistake when setting up the Secret Woods pond fish list; he set the Catfish to appear in spring and summer instead of its standard spring and fall.

Assuming he has since fixed this little mistake and no one corrected the wiki, then the Catfish would appear in spring and fall in the Secret Woods pond.

I hate to argue from ignorance, but it's the only explanation I can come up with.

I have caught catfish in the secret woods pond when it's raining, but I don't remember what seasons it's been. Perhaps Tripoteur Ventripotent is right and the wiki is wrong. Trying it in the fall sounds like a reasonable suggestion.

Hmm, that sounds fishy...I've caught lots of catfish over the in-game years. All were caught in the rain and I seem to catch more catfish in the lake just south of the mine. I tend to fish during the day, so I'm not sure about night fishing.

Per the wiki:
The Catfish is a fish that can be found in the river (Town+Forest) and forest pond during the Spring and Fall during rainy weather, as well as in the Witch's Swamp. In the Summer, it can only be found in the Secret Woods pond. It can also be found in Garbage Cans in Spring, Fall, or Winter.

I would try doing the River Town+Forest during the fall, on the bridge that leads to the beach, throw your line to the east of the bridge, that is where I caught mine.

Funny you say that. I just caught like 20 catfishes hours ago. It was in the spring season, the river and it was raining.

It's not rare at all. I'm on day five of my first spring, it's 12:10, and so far today I've caught 5 Smallmouth Bass (gold), 2 Smallmouth Bass (silver), 1 Shad (silver) and 5 Catfish (gold).

That's why no Catfish in 350+ catches is very likely to indicate that it's not on the spawn list.

Those Catfish I caught are worth 375g each so it's going to be a good day... I'll probably make 5,000 or 6,000g.

Update: end of day summary says 6,300g and that doesn't include the Emerald, Rare Disc, 2 Frozen Geodes and 3 Magma Geodes that I didn't sell.

Fishing is so good...

Did some research, and it seems it's an issue with my UI mod, it causes catfish to not appear XD So, that's 350+ attempts wasted lmao

Does it look at the actual code, or just at the programmer comments?

350+ catches with no Catfish is stretching the limits of believability.

Just in this one in-game day, I must have cast 50 or 60 times. I caught 9 Catfish and let 4 more escape. When the Catfish is available, it's not particularly rare.

It looks at the code. But as I said, the UI mod has a bug that doesn't allow it to appear at all. So Im going to have to work around that issue :)
