Easy - buy it from Clint.
Cheap - mine it.

Quick - Bomb areas of rocks and hope for stairs.

Quickest - Build stairs yourself.

Or buy a better sword, while also upgrading your pickaxe. Doing all that will really help you to get to level 40, and there are 120 levels in total.
buy it for 150 per 1 iron

OP, how far are you? If you are on your first year then just go through at least 5 floors to make a short cut for the elevator. Every 5 floors you'll be closer to getting more iron, which is about floor 40. If it's combat you're having trouble with then use what ever gold you have and buy upgrades from the guild, it's right next to the mine, you just have to keep walking right, outside. It is not that far, seriously! Did you go to the guild yet? Go in there and talk to the two old guys and they'll tell you what you need to do to get your rewards for going through the mine. Part of the game is learning how combat works and using food to heal you!

Seriously, it is not impossible to accomplish. JUST DO IT! :steamfacepalm:

You don't.

Wake up in the morning, watch TV, water your crops. Head into town and check the bulletin board. Then head up to the mine.

Work your way down. Try for 5 levels every day. If you're prepared and consistent about it, you can manage it in 8 days of mining.

If it's Spring, take time off to hunt for Spring Onions, and for Salmonberries. If it's Summer, grow some Hops. If it's Fall, then get some Blackberries. These will provide you with the energy and healing you need to progress.
