Achient Fruit and Star fruit both need a nerf
they are both extreamly op and can get you millions by year 2. If you find a anchient seed at year 1 like my first playthough your sorted for life and i made millions by year 2 and 3 and i felt like the game was to simple (note this was before the update that gave more endgame content) and if you get starfruit by year 1 then you can make a large pumkin or cranberrie crop and get a large amout of money to start year 2 and starfruit is still op in year 2 meaning you can make millions easily bye year 2 from starfruit (note it would be hard to get starfruit by year 1 but its possible) so they deserve a nerf so perries crops become relavent the only one that can compare to them is the hops but thats another story... (I did not inclued the sweet gem berrie as i think they are ballenced cause you can buy them from a store in large ammounts and they will only produce 1 harvest per year except in the greenhouse it can produce 5 if using quality speed grow)

Starfruit Seeds are very expensive and can only be bought in the Desert, which most people won't have unlocked before the summer (when the Starfruit grows). They're mostly unusable in Year 1 and balanced enough for Year 2, especially since they compete against the very, very lucrative Hops.

Ancient Seeds are way harder to come by than even Starfruit Seeds, and they take an exceedingly long time to turn into more Seeds. It's fine for long playthroughs, but I personally don't bother with it. It's just way too slow.

I don't really see a need to nerf them. If they couldn't compete against regular crops despite their drawbacks, then no one would use them and then people would be asking for berries to be nerfed to make the special crops relevant.

... I just made 3 million off of Hops by the end of Year 1. What's the big deal?

You need to make Kegs to make a fortune off these crops. You need to have a plan to be able to make the Kegs early on. You should be rewarded if you put in the time and effort to work these things out. You build the machines to refine the crops you work to max out, and you get a payout in return.

Rather than trying to balance out the crops, I wish they'd do more to make other forms of income catch up to the Kegs approach. Some things to encourage other cards of agriculture in the dead spaces of non-standard farms. I'd like them to balance out the farms so that the non-standard farms aren't automatically like half as good as the Standard Farm, because of all the space you simply can't do anything with.

It's my first winter and I only have 16...
But then again I have 24 oak resin sitting around.
I found an acient seed year one, but I didn't donate it by year two, and then I didn't plant it until I had the greenhouse in the summer, so, Am I doing it wrong?

Spring: First few days, until the Mine opened, I went fishing mostly. Worked through the mine to get Quality Sprinklers. Worked to get Foraging up for Lightning Rods before the storms rolled in for Summer. Planted a good number of potatoes. Took Geologist to try it out, it did provide some extra funds early. Tapped 10 oak trees on my farm.

Summer: 400 Hops plants, with Sprinklers. Planted ~90 Oak Trees in the Trainyard once it was open. Frequent trips to the Mine to manufacture the massive collection of Kegs I was going to need. No Junimos, of course; it was Year 1. Had 20 or 30 by the time the harvest started and it grew weekly. Lucked into 3 T-Storms with my lightning rods. Went Joja, got Greenhouse near the end, planted about 65-70 more Hops.

Fall: Stay the course. Kegs weekly. After a point I was just buying the materials. Assembled 15 Furnaces. Got very annoyed at not being able to just buy bars. Grew two sets of 400 pumpkins, they await the inevitable day when I run out of Hops. They're still there. Lucked into a T-Storm. Got about 70 batteries that mostly went into Iridium Sprinklers. Still wondering if that was the right thing to do instead of mass producing Crystalariums and just making a crap ton of Quality Sprinklers. Got the Sewer Key, started farming the Bug Lair to try and get an Ancient Seed because I still didn't have one. Starfruit in the empty space in the Greenhouse.

Winter: Closing out Winter presently. Have ~600 Kegs in the Desert, just finished relocating the ones from my farm. Still have about 2,000 Hops left of the ~6500, it wasn't really going down until I had hundreds of Kegs thanks to the Greenhouse. Set up for next year, cover all the space with Sprinklers, Iridium or Quality. Since it ook forever to get an Ancient Seed, no idea if I'll be ready to convert to Ancient Fruit in Year 3; kept farming Bug Lair and have like 10 or 12 Ancient Fruit plants now. Built and fully upgraded a Barn for pigs off in a corner. I'll have to count how many spaces I have, should be 2,000 or more.

Retrospective: Maybe I should've kept some Strawberry seeds for the Greenhouse, I really don't have anything good to grow for Summer now. Rhubarb will have to do, I guess. I'm probably going to run out of Hops in a week with the number of Kegs I have now. Pumpkins are only going to work out to be about one round of juice, and then I'm mostly out of things. I guess Rhubarb will be up by then, but that wine is only going to be worth like 1000 so that's pretty meh. Better than empty Kegs, I suppose. Sell the extra stuff once I start drowning in Starfruit Summer Y2.

TL/DR; Making a lot of money fast takes elaborate planning. There is no short version.
