Question about losing hearts.
When you get a marriage candidate to 8 hearts, do they lose hearts when you don't talk to them anymore?

I know you wont lose hearths when you get someone to 10 hearts, but what about the 8 heart max?

cheers :summersun:

Edit: Heart :)

If you haven't given them a bouquet, then 8 hearts is max and you don't lose hearts when you've gotten them to *max* hearts. (If you have given them a bouquet, then you've unlocked two more hearts and changed max to 10 no matter what else you do. So careful with those bouquets.)

Yes they lose -2 relationship per day and if you have given someone a Bouquet they lose -10 per day if you don't talk to them.

It doens't decay at full 10 hearts.

https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Friendship

"Each villager's heart meter is full at 10 hearts. When full, the meter does not decay over time, even if you never talk to the villager. It can still decrease by other means, such as giving an unsuitable gift or rummaging in trash. Friendship points can still increase, up to a maximum of 2749 (one point less than 11 hearts), when you do talk or give a liked or loved gift to a villager whose heart meter is full."

Alright, I'll focus on getting the non marriage peeps maxed out first then.

Thanks and cheers :summersun:

From that same wiki page: "With marriage candidates, ***the meter pauses at 8 hearts. It will stay that way forever unless you give the candidate a bouquet to indicate your romantic interest.*** If you do so, that meter is unlocked again and operates as before until ten hearts is reached and it registers as full. It is possible to give a bouquet to any and all marriage candidates, and raise all their friendship levels to 10 hearts, without damage to your relationships with other romantic partners, so long as you have not yet proposed."

Meaning that max hearts is 8 for marriage candidates unless you've given them a bouquet, and friendship does not decay at ***max.*** It's actually easier to max marriage candidates.

Alright, that's gonna bug me... Sorry if I come across as a jerk, but since the question has been answered.... Just OCD:

The word you're looking for is "Heart". A "hearth" is the area in front of a fireplace. ;) Also used to refer to one's home or "home away from home". ( Think a warm, inviting place where you're comfortable )

You are right, fixed.
Don't worry about being a jerk, reasonable people can take it.

Wrong. The hearts for marriage singles do decay when they are at 8 hearts. I just had Emily drop from 8 to 7 when I havent talked to her at all becuase I had not crossed her path during my daily routines.

I have never had that happen, with Emily, Alex, Abigail, Penny, or Sam, in over 900 hours or 8 playthroughs. No one else has ever mentioned that happening. The wiki says different to your experience, as well. Your experience was something on your end. A bug maybe?

Hmm... interesting. I don't know.

The wiki does say that ""Each villager's heart meter is full at 10 hearts", so I'm not sure 8 counts as the max for singles. Also, even if a character's heart limit is 8, you can still get them to 9 hearts minus 1 Friendship. A character having 249 hidden Friendship over their visible max might trick you into believing that there's no decay.

You're trying to get a character to 8 hearts and your gift brings them from, say, 1,960 Friendship to 2,040 Friendship, and then you talk to them and get to 2,060 Friendship.

In this common scenario, you'd have to not even talk to them for over 30 days in a row to experience a heart decrease from 8 to 7. And experiencing the loss might not be enough; you'd have to check your social tab before even talking to them again (which would bring them back well above 2,000 Friendship) to even notice that it happened. Doing a Luau during that time (more than 25% chance given that 31 days is more than a quarter of the year) would also prevent a visible heart loss.

Indeed, you wouldn't see that kind of heart loss happen very often... not necessarily because it can't happen, but because it naturally wouldn't.

I could believe that it's possible to lose the 8th heart with a single that's at 8 hearts.

Only sure way to verify would be with a mod that displays Friendship. Get a single to 2,005 Friendship or something, then wait three days and see if they go down to 1,999. If they remain at 2,000 then it's not possible for a single to go from 8 hearts to 7 via decay alone.
