Storage/Chest Overhaul
The current system for storing items isn't convinient. My proposal is to implement one or more of the following:

1. A large chest/bank which deposits up to 100 items.
2. A search item function. The ability to type in the first few letters of an item would filter matches. This would save so much time when looking for items you may not be able to find.

Let me know what you think about this.

I totally agree. I'm on the last few days of winter year 1 and I already have like 10 chests inside my house that are almost full. A chest with 100 slots would be great.

I do have to say that I like that you can put a chest anywhere, in the mine, at the beach, or just anywhere. Makes it easy for when my bag is full and I'm out somewhere.

I think you need to throw some stuff away. I've never needed more than 5 chests except for convenience. If you have 10 full chests.... >_>

I do one chest for foraging, one for farming, one for the mines, one for fishing, and one for extra paths, artifacts and gifts. What in the world are your chests full of? O_o

I typically have:

Foraging chest (extra stuff in the refrigerator in the late game)
Farming chest (extra stuff in the refrigerator in the late game)
Mining chest (stacks of Stones, ore, bars, gems)
Fishing chest (fish, algae, tackles)
Monster/Equipment chest (monster loot, extra rings, weapons)
"Stuff I need to take into town at some point" chest (gifts, stuff I need to reserve for quests)
General resources/tools/totems/misc chest

And, of course, they're placed in convenient locations (Farming chest near field, Town chest near exit, etc) and color-coded (Foraging is dark green, Farming is light green, Fishing is blue, etc).

It's functional enough for me.

I wouldn't be opposed to some improvements to storage at some point, but it's got to be low-priority. Game's still full of bugs and requires serious polish in more important places.

I personally like to keep everything I find in chests. I rarely throw anything. That's the way I like to play this game. I have 11 chests at the moment.

*insert Wolf of Wall Street "Those are rookie numbers!" meme* I usually have no less than 20 (6 of those are for casks when it's iridium wine harvesting day, and therefore they stay empty most of the time).

I don't think the search item function is likely to happen..I'm not a programmer but I'm guessing having a game to remember names and process typed data is not an easy thing to do..currently the game recognizes and process these names: character name, farm name, favourite thing, pet name, horse name, baby names, and barn/coop animal names..and in 8 to 10 different languages as well..

there are literally hundreds of items in the game that can be put into chests..and multiply all that in different languages..I think that's just too much work for a game developer to do..

as Tripoteur said..you can put different colours on the chests..you can build as many chests as you want and put them wherever you want..in and outside of your farm..

organizing chests and remembering what you have in them is so much easier than fishing or artifact hunting or journey of the prairie king..

To the OP: I don't find your suggestions useful, TBH. I think it would be a nightmare to try and remember the names of all the items I keep in chests so the search function would probably be useless for me.

I keep 5-10 chests, color code them, and place different categories of items inside. Some chests have only a few items (stuff to keg or preserve in the future), and some are fairly full (crafting materials, stuff to keep for gifts/garange display/quests/community center, etc). I like to make money off the stuff I find and gather in the game so I only keep things I might use in the future. And periodically I purge chests of items I have too many of, or no longer think I might use. I don't have a problem finding things because items in the game are fairly easy to categorize by type or function.

I've got maybe three chests in my original non-modded file. Even so, I wouldn't mind a search function or just a better organize option.

I have a loooot of chests because they're cheap to build and I don't like my bag being full all the time (I do a lot of all day mining runs). I would like it if chests could hold a bit more (even with categorizing them I run out of room.

I would also really like it if I could name chests somehow? put labels on things?

anyway here's my chest setup if anyone wants ideas:

in my bedroom (where I have the Statue of Perfection, some smelting machines):
- mining loot chest (bat wings, bug meat, slime, etc)
- mining equipment loot chest (old rings, boots, weapons I will sell someday, also hats)
- metal and gems chest (all my ore, coal, a few smelted bars saving up, and a few gems if I feel like saving them)

In front of my house:
- "supplies" chest (wood, stone, sap, fiber, clay, maple seeds, acorns, batteries, etc)
- "outdoor decor chest (scarecrows, fence bits, path bits, lamps, torches, etc)
- Grange set (a chest devoted to items for a perfect score on the grange display)
- "I don't want to organize this right now" chest (for dumping stuff I want to keep)

Inside a shack near my house:
- seed chest (next to seed machine)
- fish chest (I don't fish much, but there's tackle in here and a few rare fish)

Next to shipping crate:
- recycling chest (next to recycling machines)

Inside barn:
- animal product chest (for unprocessed eggs, milk, truffles, etc) - this is near the machines which I have walled off on the left side of the barn)

Inside greenhouse:
- fruit chest (for fruit grown in greenhouse)
- veggie chest (for veggies grown in greenhouse)
I have a few kegs and barrels in here (but I don't really tend to process fruit much)

next to mine entrance:
- "oops I brought too much stuff" chest (dump everything in here before mining)
I have another one at the entrance to the skull cave

Right now I'm making most of my money from random mining trips, Junimos harvesting all-season crops (234 tiles of them), and truffles and it's working fine for me

Someday I'll probably get more into processing fruit (probably ancient seeds) into wine

I'm guilty of having so many chests. I'm an accidental horder, thinking I'm going to need things (it does help for money when I sell things I have high amounts of).. But I've noticed I still can't remember what chest has what even if I have it color coded. In the beginning it was easy, but now it's like "...Is this in that??" and I'm constantly wasting time just searching. It'd be cool if we could label the chests for just maybe a little help boost.
