Technically there's a very small chance that the Traveling Cart will have one unit, but it's going to be overpriced.
Friday and Sunday.
But I wouldn't try to get Hardwood from there. There's only a 1.26% chance for it to show up and it'll cost anywhere from 100g to 1,000g for that one piece.
People normally get Hardwood from large stumps.
Hmm... I don't know. In spring, your biggest obstacle is that you don't have much gold to invest. Any money that you spend is money that you can't invest in things that will generate returns, and then you won't have those returns to invest again.
25 Iron Ore is... 3,750g? Even if you had the budget that early in spring (upgrading the axe also costs 5,000g), you could have bought a lot of seeds with that money instead. If you blow that amount on Ore instead of seeds, this early in spring, you'll have 10,000g or 15,000g less by the start of summer. Having 10,000g or 15,000g less by the start of summer means you'll have 50,000g or 100,000g less by the start of autumn. Rather severe self-sabotage.
In comparison, getting to level 40 of the mines only takes a few days. You can get that Iron Ore before you would have amassed the 9k for the axe upgrade and pay only 5k for it instead.
No... if getting Hardwood early is that important to you, simply choose the Forest Farm. The Forest Farm is awesome, probably worth having your soil in the wrong corner of the map.
That wall of text makes no sense.
Despite wording it in a way that leaves a very small possibility that your solution is viable for seasons other than the first spring, realistically speaking, no one's going to buy 25 copper and 25 iron in summer or autumn (and certainly not in winter) because they want to upgrade their axe from default and then from Copper. It's just not a realistic scenario. Even if the person happened to have never upgraded their axe even once before and used all their surplus ore in both copper and iron, they'd be better off going to the Mines and getting the stuff themselves than spending 5,625g on low-level ore.
So yes, in context, we're absolutely talking very early game here, most likely the first spring or perhaps early summer. The player is going to be conserving gold to invest and to buy important things.
The 7,000g upgrade costs for early access to the Secret Woods early is already pretty steep. Spending an extra 3,750g on iron at that time is nowhere near reasonable, and spending 1,875g on 25 copper ore (it's free in the Mines starting on day 5!) is pure insanity. Even if you were indeed that insane and willing to dump that 5,625g into ore for axe upgrades, combined with the upgrade costs, that adds up to 12,625g. Maybe mining takes time, but you're not going to make that much gold in a few days either, even if you give up all other expenses. If you want to be technical, nonstop Fishing for gold would indeed be the fastest way to attain the twice-upgraded axe (especially if you get some ore in treasure chests), but it's not a practical solution because people use their first spring to do a lot of important stuff. You want to be working on all your skills.
Buying the ore is not faster. One dude working on gathering 12,625g is going to take as much time as someone working on progress in the Mines while gathering only 7,000g.
At the end of the day, both will be completely broke, but the miner will still have the 45 levels of progress in the Mines that they worked for, while the other will have nothing because the 5,625g extra gold that they put their efforts in is now gone.
So, to any new player who might happen to be reading this thread... even if you think you have urgent need of a tool upgrade, don't start amassing gold aiming to buy 25 iron ore. Just go mining. Not only will it save you tons of gold, it's actually pretty decent money anyway.
