Purple/blue highlight on items

When I get certain items, like goat cheese versus normal cheese or ancient fruit wine verses blueberry wine, the item has a purplish highlight when it goes to my inventory. I gather that it means it's more valuable. But what does it mean exactly?

I think it typically just means it's a valuable artisan good. Truffle oil, silk and starfruit wine are all purple, for example. I don't think it means anything other than value.
