You can usually find mushrooms in the Secret Woods (or on your farm if you have the Forest farm). In comparison, a lot of tree fruits are very hard to obtain; either own a tree a month in advance of its season or get it the Traveling Cart.

Personally I went for the fruit bats. It was a super easy choice because I'm using the Forest farm, but I'm pretty sure I'd still choose the bats even if I wasn't.

I choose mushroom over fruit bats because I have a greenhouse with 16 fruit trees of all kinds...Even in the first year I have all 4 fruit trees(except the ones in spring), once you get your fruit trees set up the fruit bats are meaningless. On the other hand I don't venture out to mine or secret woods very often, wild mushrooms are more rare for me(I'm also using the forest farm too).

If you are like me you probably want the mushroom, if you don't want to spend gold on fruit trees in the first year go for the fruit bat.

Don't listen to anyone saying fruit bats. mushrooms are more useful overall.

Bats are cuter, though.:batsilo:

Mushrooms. You get more and there is less variation of it so you might actually get what you want. With bats you get a random fruit which most likely isn't the one you want and you get far less of them.

You get a constant supply of life elixir + a lot of free food.

Yeah mushrooms for the life elixir. Or just to sell shrooms for quick cash. You can grow fruit in the greenhouse. But you have to depend on luck to find mushrooms

I had mushrooms my first run, but I thought they were so easy to find that on my second run I picked the bats.

Life Elixirs are pretty useless, though. They save you maybe 20 seconds of clicking a week, and that's it. Probably takes longer to grab the ingredients and craft it than the actual time it saves you.

Essentially, the bats save you from having to plant those awful fruit trees that require a ton of money upfront yet take more than a year to yield profits. I never plant fruit trees other than the Apple tree, there are much better things I can do with the gold.

The mushrooms save you a half-dozen trips to the Secret Woods, and then that's assuming you don't have the Forest farm, in which case you get the mushrooms right there on your farm. That's about it.

I know there are multiple factors involved here, but the fruit bats are just so much better it's barely worth comparing the two.

You are just as much likely if not more to get it in the traveling cart.

So how does it hurt to have more chance and get them for free? Mushrooms are much easier to come by.
Hurt your chances? When did I say that? However to pick bats just for bundles is not a valid argument for a good choice unless don't plan to go there again after it. It is a waste of opportunity after you completed the bundles.

As for what is most common. Do you actually use a lot of fruits? I never tend to use them apart from bundles as you get to few of them and they are to hard to get. Common Mushrooms are quite easy to find in spring and fall. Morel however can only be found in spring in the secret woods, and Chanterelle can also only be found in the secret woods but in fall. Red and blue mushroom can be more easy to find but the blue mushroom can pretty much only be found sometimes in the mines. They are not exactly easy to come by.

What I am saying is that if you pick bats just for the bundles you are wasting the cave for something that can be achived just about as easy as picking that option.

I took the bats in my first game. I was quite underwhelmed. The bats don't drop much fruit. It might have helped me finish one CC bundle early. I get all the fruit trees anyways in every game I play so the bats are redundant.

Mushrooms, OTOH, provide a better early game food source (compared to the bats), easy access to the Life Elixir which is handy to have, and gives you some of the rarer mushrooms a lot more frequently you'll find foraging in the secret forest and around town. (I've only played the default farm map.) Some of the different foraged mushrooms are only available a season, so it seems to me with your cave choice you either end up with seasonal fruit from trees and a steady supply of mushrooms, or a seasonal supply of mushrooms and a steady supply of fruit from the cave.

For the best of both worlds get the mushroom cave and plant the fruit trees inside the greenhouse around the perimeter.

I'll never choose the bat cave again. I thought it was worthless.

I never use fruits and I never use mushrooms. These things have no use aside from their requirements for the bundles.

Fruits are hard to get, mushrooms are easy to get.

The cave can save me from growing expensive trees or it can save me from a few short trips.

It's an easy choice.

Well if you haven't moded the greenhouse you can place the fruit trees on the pavement in the greenhouse. It will not affect to growing area of the greenhouse and you will get fruit all year around. Not exactly expensive after that as they produce every single day.

It's really the initial investment that bothers me.

It's huge and you don't get any returns for at least a month. Then the following month barely pays back the original investment.

You could have done so much more with your gold instead...

The Apple tree is the only one I tolerate and then only because it's needed for a bundle. Thanks to the fruit bats, I don't have to waste my precious resources on any of the other trees.
