Gem Covered Walls

While digging through the mines, I've noticed a number of walls that look like they're covered in gems and minerals and whatnot. i'd say half of the levels of the mine will have such a section of wall.

Should I be blowing up these walls for extra minerals and gems and such, or are they just there for aesthetics?

I honestly have never tried to do that, but you should give it a go. It never hurts to try, but if I honestly had to take a guess, they're most likely for aesthetic purposes only
