I saw a quest for Haley in which she wanted a carp, so I got one and gifted it to her. However, the quest didn't finish (along with her exclaiming in disgust). I'm a bit confused now on how to finish the quest.

I accepted it. It's in my journal.

quests bug out sometimes where you have to pick up the item for it to count so drop the item and pick it up. Never give a person a quest item unless the quest in the journal actually says "talk to" ____. By the way that fish is gone for good.

Maybe not. As a disgusting monster who eats food I find in peoples trash [And the occasional material like gold bars I tend to find in there.] for my long fishing sessions, I've found bad gifts I've given to people in their trash later that night or the morning afterwards.
