What are cherry bombs used for?

helpful to blast the rocks in the mines but it's not as useful to kill slime and bugs.

Cherry bombs are the weakest of rthe bombs with the smallest blast radius. They're good for blowing up rocks in the mines and skull caverns if you just want to clear a small area. Bombs have a largers radius and are stronger so you'll need to put more distance between you, while mega bombs, I haven't tried, but I'd imagine you need to drop and keep running away to get clear.

Cherry bombs works well for mine lv1~40 at least, those level usually don't have large space that needed to be clear, neither are there enough space for you to dodge the explosion. They can help you reach deeper level really quick in early game, and they are quite cheap to make. But overall this is designed as an "beginner" item so you might want to switch to more powerful bomb later on.
