Pigs keep finding Truffles.
I probably lost around 25k before I realized this...

Just because a pig has found a Truffle doesn't mean it's done for the day. It might very well find a couple more Truffles after a while.

I only have two pigs, but I just got 9 Truffles (maybe two or three of those from my Foraging skill) in a single day.

They sold for 11,250g total.

And how can we discuss about it?

We can't, or at least not that much.

It was more of a PSA than anything else. Those things are worth 1,250g each, if only a couple people read this and don't miss out on extra Truffles then my work here is done.

Truffle Oil with the artisan profession sells for 1491. I always convert the truffles to oil, and keep some for rain totems.

Truffles can also hide in the grass. They can be particularly hard to find in Fall because the colors are similar. I never noticed how many I was missing until I took the tracker profession in one game.

I like truffles too, seems picking up truffles benefit from foraging skills, the one that ensure it got iridium quality and 50% double the item when picked up.

People already know about truffles. I assume that you have not put many hours into SDV?

Speak for yourself, OnetimeRocket13. I obviously knew about truffles but I didn't know pigs could discover more than one per day, so this is good for some people to know.
Thanks for the info, OP.

I've always felt I was missing some, but Tracker always seems weaker than Botanist so I've never managed to convince myself to try it.

That's good to know, I'm relatively new to the game myself and didn't know pigs could collect multiple truffles per day. So far I'd only kept one around, may invest in another.

Thanks OP. I haven't had pigs in previous playthroughs but was planning on getting them for this one and didn't know this, much appreciated.

My pleasure. Seemed a shame for people to miss out on extra Truffles, even if it's just for a day or two. Animals make all sorts of noises, it's easy for the human brain to just filter out a pig digging for Truffles as random animal sound effects.

I'm about to finish year two of my first playthrough, so I'm technically not that experienced with the game.

However, given the recent sale leading to a significant number of new players (most of which probably haven't put in as many hours as I have), it's extremely unlikely that literally everyone other player in the world, even those newer ones who haven't even had pigs before, all know that pigs can find more Truffles.

It's not like I'm running towards a whole bunch of experienced lumberjacks and proudly annoucing to them that you can find trees in forests.

its the only reason to give them hearts.

newsflash cows produce large milk if you get them hearts.

I can only speak for myself, but... for me, there wasn't a reason to assume that more hearts yielded a "super" effect for every single animal in the game. Void Chickens, for example, don't produce large eggs.

For all we know, more hearts could simply have affected the quality of the Truffles.

Truffles are a foraged item, and so quality is not affected by animal happiness or heart level. The quality depends on your foraging skill and professions. If you take the Botanist profession you'll always pick up iridium truffles.

According to the wiki: Pigs "have a chance of digging up multiple truffles, which is a percent chance equal to Animal Friendship/1500. At max friendship this means they have a 66% chance of creating an additional truffle. Multiple truffles can be made until the animal fails this check."

Yes, but since I was a Botanist long before I had a Pig, so I couldn't have known that. Every Truffle I've ever picked up was Iridium-quality, so I had no idea if I was overwriting the Truffle's basic quality (which might have been based off of the Pig's Friendship level).

Indeed, a Pig could potentially produce Truffles all day if it never failed the 66% check. And potentially, you could double all those Truffles when picking them up. That would be mighty impressive...

The most truffles I've gotten from a pig is 5.

This is how you do pigs and truffles:
