Do you lose tools if you die?
Just wanta to make sure. I loves to bring all the tools with me, but I know that i lose items if I die. So if died in the mine, is my tools in my backpack in danger? Or is it just items other than tools?

It seems it's possible. At least, during 3 times I died in skull cavern, I lost my sword twice and on the other occasion I lost my scythe ( I think, at least I couldn't see it anymore). Kinda "cheated" and simply quit without saving and reset the day. It sucks in general because you lose WAY too much if you die...it's really unreasonable. In the mines, you die and lose items (one time I lost 4 slots worth of items), you lose a bunch of money AND in the mines you lose up to 11 levels of progress. It's riddiculous and one of the main reasons I rarely ever go spelunking...

I read that, if you lose one of your tools, a villager will find it and it will be returned to you automatically.

Swords are not basic tools, however, so if you lose one, it's probably gone forever.

I only died once and simply lost some generic junk, so I didn't bother reloading.

This is correct. Basic tools that you cannot replace (pick, shovel, axe, watering can, hoe) may be randomly "lost" for one day and appear in yor mailbox as found the next day. Anything else may be permanently lost at random since you could, in principle, obtain a new one.
