Trees, Trees and More Trees
I'm in year 3, and for the first time, I seem to have a shortage of hay. I think it's because my farm is overrun by hundreds of trees, big trees, little trees, clusters of trees, tree seeds. I can't keep up with chopping them down. Everytime I do something else for a few 'days,' they start encroaching on the greenhouse and my fruit trees. I have a forest, not a farm.

Is there some way to keep the trees under control?

And am I right, is the abundance of trees inhibiting the growth of grass and hay?

Use mega bombs, it takes two to take down a whole bunch of trees at the same time. And it is inhibiting the growing space for grass, yeah.

You can RKO trees so fast with a maxed Iridum axe that the stump is gone before the tree even falls over, lol.

Thank you all. I have spent the last 'two' days getting rrid of the trees. I will take the advice of finishing them off during winter. In th emeantime, it seems that the grass is growing so I can fill my silos up in fall.

Does using the mega bombs on the trees still drop the wood? Or is it just destroyed?

yell NERF THIS and just place 100 mega bombs around your farm gg ez

Can you still place taps on stumps ?

I personally just buy a ton of wood from carpenter. Using trees only for taps.

Yes I had this happen. I didn't play for a week and when I logged back in my farm was overrun with trees. I spent one whole season trying to cut a reasonable path through them so I can see if there is hay to cut, but they seem to spawn back faster than usual. I have been using the pick axe to get rid of seeds that have dropped and small saplings but its been futile and even though I am in year three with a greenhouse and upgraded house, barn and coop I am thinking of starting over just so I can play the game without having to be a lumberjack ever day. Will try setting a bomb first to see if that gets rid of them faster. I only need a few trees now that I'm done with upgrades.

I destroyed my farm from most of my trees with exception of a small patch of mixed trees between the greenhouse and the edge of the farm. I cut down all stumps, saplings and seeds and then covered the areas between with wood paths. It keeps them from spreading so I have a bunch of tappers for them.

This keeps my trees in control. You need about three paths thick at the edge though so more seeds don't fall. I also suggest making the trees in a 3x3 space for maximum capacity and neatness but I just left mine as the big trees grew.

pull all the acorns out of the ground with a hoe.

I cut all the trees in winter and put the tree seeds near the edge of the map (for getting various tree products) and just cut it back if it leaves the edge of the map ever.

That said, not really happy with the animals. crops are way easier to manage after you get sprinklers.

Meant to say that you should spend part of one winter cutting down all the trees. plant a few here and there for futures wood and tree product needs. Then plant grass all over the place.

It only takes two or three days in game to clear cut the whole farm. Probably less if you've got a decent axe. Why did you let it get overrun in the first place?
