Yes, you need it to attack,select and use items :/

Nope. Keyboard controls are also available. By default I believe X is the interact/use item key, and C is the attack/mine/use tool key. Not 100% sure what keys toggle the selected item, but you can rebind it or just use the number keys to select specific item slots as needed.

Inventory management may be very difficult with no mouse though. A Steam controller does work pretty well if you've got one.

Got some pretty diverse comments here. So is it possible to play this game and use keyboard only aside from when you're doing inventory management?
Is the mouse necessary for attacks or is that rebindable aswell?

This is probably the best answer.

I plan on playing this when I'm on my laptop, and since moving the cursor aswell as moving/clicking is quite dreadful on the touch screens I was hoping it was playable without it (:

I play with an xbox controller and you just use the right stick as the mouse, I have no problems. Because I have a laptop I only have a track pad so it's not nice for me to use. But controller is absoltely fine :)

You will need keyboard for typing at the very begginning when creating your character

I do not intend to use a controller, keyboard only if it works fine ^^;

The game can be played with a gamepad so it seems like it wouldn't be that far off to play it without a mouse. With a gamepad you can use right stick as your mouse for funtions that need it (I only every use it when placing objects, planting, that sort of thing. Things like inventory and the like would likely work just like using the Dpad.

I would recomend using a gamepad or mouse, however. Just for the simple fact that it would make things a little easier, in my opinion.

oh man it would be horrible to use a gamepad fdor this game but thats just my opinion, the only thin gamepads are good for is third person games and driving games.
