Any permanent choices to know of/be warned of ahead of time?
Out of curiosity, in this game are there any choices a new player should know of ahead of time that, once made, can't be changed or done again without restarting a new game?

Examples would be, any non-repeatable quests where only one of multiple rewards can be chosen or chance encounters that only happen one time per game?

Or are all choices eventually reversible or repeatable?

I've been reading a few guides and had felt comfortable at this point learning by playing but I wanted to check so, in that trial and error phase, I wouldn't stumble on anything I'd regret down the road and not be able to fix.

Hm... let's see ... Demetrius (the field researcher) will eventually come to you and ask you if he can set up an observation station in your cave. He'll give you your choice between Mushrooms or Fruit Bats.

There are pros and cons to each. I personally think it's a bit harder to obtain regular sources of Mushrooms and tend to prefer that one, but there are reasons to pick the fruit too.

Hm... pretty much everything else is either reversable or repeatable, at least as I recall ...

Hm.. a couple more things: Strawberry seeds are of very limited availability. (Being only sold during the Egg Festival). You have to make a choice between a late start (and limited harvests) or waiting a year before planting the seeds you purchase. Eventually, you'll be able to make your own seeds and it won't be an issue, but in the first couple of years it is a decision to ponder.

The Ancient Seed: Ancient Seeds take a looooong time to grow. You can grow them outside, but they'll die when Winter comes. Since they're hard to obtain, many people prefer to wait until they have the Greenhouse set up, and then grow the Ancient Seeds in there, where they won't die.

When making a character:
Your favorite thing shows up later ingame, don't put something you wouldn't want people to see.
Your favorite animal will be your pet.
You can't change your farm map later.

Ingame:
Mushrooms vs fruit bats... it's irreversible.
All your skills for professions are irreversible.

There's probably more, and if you want to edit your save you can actually change any choice you make ingame.

Oh yeah, skill choices, that's a good one.

I think purchasing a Joja Membership is irreversible.

Thanks for the prompt replies, taking some notes on these so if I encounter them I research before picking.

It also seems like none of these would be 'game ending' if the 'wrong' choice is made.

Yeah, there's no real way to "lose", you can only get set back a bit. The most irreversible is the Joja vs Community Center choice, as it affects bundles/development packages and can change your game dramatically.

Again, thanks everyone!

My hope is this will be the quality casual game (in this context, forgiving of choices/mistakes) the ratings and discussion forums make it out to be. Wasn't looking for a game I could be the 'best' at, just one I could just 'play' and any outside research I do is a choice not a necessity.

Yeah, anything that can be fixed with time... even if it takes game seasons or years... I'm not concerned with.

It's more things like the pet choice or Joja vs CC option being mentioned, one time choices and quests that can NEVER be changed (short of editing, which I'm not against but also not proficient in unless it's an editor with a good UI).

Also bear in mind that there are some choices which aren't permanent but aren't exactly easy to reverse. Marriage is an example of this. It costs 50,000 gold to divorce and when you marry that will be quite a lot of money.

I don't think it would be worth editing the save file. There are 5 farm maps to choose from (and that's another irreversible choice). If you really enjoy SV you'll likely start a new game eventually just to try out a different map. And in that new game you can make different choices. In my 2nd game and chose to go with the CC again. But I recently started a 3rd and I'm thinking of going the Joja Mart route, just to do it once.

Some of the heart events are mutually exclusive. Emily's 8 heart event locks out one of Clint's events, for example.

Does it really? That's interesting.

Regarding the pet choice (cat or dog), the first time a pet showed up, I answered I will take him. Then for some reason, the game didn't save (or rather, I thought I slept and saved it that night), so the next time I played, I was at the morning where the pet shows up again. This time, I said no. As a result, I didn't get the pet.

Will there be another pet event that comes back in later? I'm just in season 2 of my first play through, so maybe another pet shows up but I haven't gotten there yet.

Some of the heart events will affect relationship levels as well, positively or negatively. Something to keep in mind as well. Its not much, normally only 50-100 positive or negative, but its there. Negative awnsers are pretty easy to tell apart from positive ones.
