thank you for the reply my fellow farmer :p
i guess ill give it a try and gather some resources over winter incase some break
As a result, I've taken to putting down one tile of cobblestone (or another type that you prefer) before putting the sprinkler on. This keeps any debris from spawning there. It also helps that when you hoe in that area, you won't pop the sprinkler out of its spot.
However, to answer your actual question, the sprinklers do not decay or need repair. They can stay out all year long.
Why not farm in the winter? You can grow winter forage items with winter seeds, Gold level crystal fruit is worth quite a bit to sell, and makes a good jelly to sell.
So don't put away your sprinklers, use them!
This happened to me. Once spring I had an iridium sprinkler and the grave path tile underneath it go missing. I think there was a rock or branch in it's place, but I confess I was so busy clearing the land and running of to Pierre's that I didn't notice until I was tilling the soil. I had to recraft both the sprinkler and the gravel path that was underneath it. I still leave sprinklers out all year round though. One sprinkler loss in 4-5 years is pretty rare.
