So...what are the advantages of improving tools?
I've just upgraded my axe to copper axe,but it seems the only difference is that this one can chop those big round logs, does it improves any other thing, like speed, energy drain etc?

It takes less hits to chip a tree/stonre.

With the hoe and watering can you can hold the button for a larger area

Upgrading the watering can also lets you water more without having to refill. The original has 48 tiles i believe, and the next is either 60 something or 90.

And upgrading your axe to steel allows you to remove the tree that blocks the entrance to the secret woods.

I think it may also decrease the amount of energy expended each time it is used, though I'm not sure about this.

Not directly, but since it takes less "clicks" for upgraded tools to do the job, you indirectly save energy.

A Steel Axe can break every type of wood object you'll come across, and a gold pickaxe is needed for the strongest type of rock. Those upgrade milestones are the only ones that unlock new stuff, everything else just makes your tools better at what the do. Once you hit those milestones you only really need to upgrade if you feel the need to improve your output (you have a massive field of crops that takes forever to water for example) or to just get everything.

The fishing rods work on a different system and just allow you to add bait (tier two & three rods) and a tackle (tier three rod only) to improve some feature of your fishing. Bait tends to improve the time it takes to get a bite, and reduces the chance of trash. Tackles tend to give a new effect that helps in some way. Example include giving a boost much like bait, making bar drop more slowly when you are "off" the fish, and having the bar stick to slow moving fish.

the watering can however I use the sprinklers as soon as they become available. cuz I can't give up my can to upgrade it unless i'm using sprinklers and if i'm using sprinklers I don't need my can.
You can just check the forecast and if it will rain the next day, then turn in your watering can. You'll get it back the day after it rains.
