Interesting... I thought the old roman a.m./p.m. format was only used by Anglophone cultures and cultures with British influence, but a quick wikipedia search tells me it's still used in Mexico, Egypt, the Philippines and Malaysia. I had no idea.

I would recommend getting used to the more standard 24-hour format. There are 24 hours in a day, after all, and it's not like conversion is particularly complex.

and many other countries, but I guess it would give you a heart attack to know that it is also commonly used in the United States.

Ah, 2017. A different time.

But no, it wouldn't surprise me at all. I did mention it was used in Anglophone/British cultures, which obviously would include the USA.

What surprised me was seeing a Spanish speaker being confused by the 24-hour format. I had no idea the AM/PM system was used in any Spanish-speaking country. But apparently it's used in Mexico at least.
