Pigs and Truffles
So I recently got into truffle farming, having gotten the Botanist perk for it and everything. I've been trying to find out if I need to be awake for pigs to produce truffles, or if I can simply sleep away a few days and find the ground littered with truffles after, but I can't seem to find the answer to such a question anywhere. I was hoping someone around here might have the answer I'm looking for.

Similarly, do I have to be on my farm for pigs to produce truffles? Or will they continue to produce them even if I'm in the town, or in Skull Cavern, etc?

I'm afraid I can't tell you what will happen if you sleep away a few days. I suspect that it won't be terribly productive as you won't be patting your pigs, so they won't be at maximum happiness. Also, you'll have to leave the barn door open (over night), which in turn makes animals less happy.

It doesn't matter where you are during the day however, it's just a thing they do when they feel like it. I've come back after a long day and found Truffles waiting.

It does seem to help if you prioritize letting them out to graze early though.

Sometimes they do, I have a pretty large truffle operation, but sometimes forget to go scoop them up, next morning there might be a few on the ground... I've tested leaving some and I'd say about half will disappear overnight...

Never tried sleeping days away, so I can't speak to that.

You don't have to be on the farm for them to produce, just go play your day & swing by your pig paddock at the end of the day, you'll want to keep them contained so you don't have to hunt all over your farm for truffles (they like to hide in the grass and behind objects)

I don't close my barn at night, or on rainy days. I shut the barn door on last of Fall and open again on 4th of Spring (so the grass can grow) and have never had problems with upset pigs or lack of production.
