Report a translation problem
It doesn't matter where you are during the day however, it's just a thing they do when they feel like it. I've come back after a long day and found Truffles waiting.
It does seem to help if you prioritize letting them out to graze early though.
BTW if its raining/in winter their will be none
Sometimes they do, I have a pretty large truffle operation, but sometimes forget to go scoop them up, next morning there might be a few on the ground... I've tested leaving some and I'd say about half will disappear overnight...
Never tried sleeping days away, so I can't speak to that.
You don't have to be on the farm for them to produce, just go play your day & swing by your pig paddock at the end of the day, you'll want to keep them contained so you don't have to hunt all over your farm for truffles (they like to hide in the grass and behind objects)
I don't close my barn at night, or on rainy days. I shut the barn door on last of Fall and open again on 4th of Spring (so the grass can grow) and have never had problems with upset pigs or lack of production.
