How to tell the colour of a chicken/cow you are buying.
I found out this little trick whilst grinding for a white cow, don't know if it was posted by here is how you find out what colour animal you will get:

1. Own one barn and one coop
2. Select cow/chicken from Marnie
3. Pick the incorrect building, a message should appear saying "X" Cow/Chicken can not be place in Barn/Coop. The X is the colour of the cow/chicken.

I don't know if this works with blue chickens, thought i would have posted this because i spent ages resetting trying to get a white cow untill i learned this trick.

Oh, that's useful! I wonder if there's any other hidden indicators.

I remember reading once that the name would determine the colour, however it's false information, name has nothing to do with the colour.

that would've been nice to know when I was needing a brown chicken for the community center bundle... I ended up buying and incubating a regular size brown egg from the traveling cart... Next playthrough, I'm definitely trying this! Now I just wish the goats came in various colors, so I could keep better track of which ones I'd already milked... Have 8 goats, milked 16 :steamfacepalm:

I was under the impression you only got blue chickens if you were married to Shane.

No you can get them if you have seen his 8 heart event.

This was mentioned in a different thread: When you're at the 'select a coop' step, it actually says "Select a coop for your White Chicken". If you don't want the white chicken, cancel out and try again until it says Brown, no barn required.

The fact that this is only now being noticed by people makes me think that it was added recently, I definitely don't remember seeing it before but maybe I'm just oblivious.
