Leah reached 10 at the 8-heart limit... is this a bug?
It is summer of year 2 in this game, and my relationships have all been cultivated in the usual manner with nothing to mention. When I game Leah a birthday present, however, I noticed that she rose to 9 hearts. I brushed it off as a one-time reading error, as all the other bachelor(ette)s capped at 8.

But throughout spring, our relationship score has only continued to increase, and she started to reveal 10-heart features (suggestive dialogue, Lewis's mermaid pendant letter, and even her 10-heart event). Her counter records the 8 heart cap, but she lies above all of the lv9s and a few lv10s on the list.

After choosing her for the flower dance, she now has a purple star in her counter, so I think she will stop at lv10.

Has this occurred with anyone else?
Its it anything that could break my relationship counter later on?

After doing some checking, I was able to do the same to Emily by giving her a loved birthday present when she was at 6 hearts. Evidently this could be used an possible exploit to see everyone's 10 heart events without dating them.

Are you in a relationship with her? Did you give a bouquet? If yes, then that's probably why. If not, then I'm not sure :/

Giving someone a loved gift on their birthday automatically bumps up their heart meter by two.

May be somewhat of a bug, but yes, you can go above 8-hearts with a bachelor/bachelorette before giving them a bouquet. On the menu, it will still show the last two hearts as grayed out, but you will still get 10-heart dialogue from them. However, you can't see their 10-heart event unless you give them a bouquet.

What I don't know, if you give them a bouquet, if the level will still the same or if it will reset to 8.

Kinda jumping the gun, huh? No flowers or anything, but hey, let's get married!

Geez man. At least buy me dinner first.
Thanks for the replies everyone! :)

To clarify, I did not give her a bouquet. She seems to have edged to 10 hearts on her own accord, and I can confirm her friendship exceeded the maximum. As a test, I gave 8-capped Maru a bouquet, and she stayed at 8-hearts. But when I gave Leah a bouquet, she shot up to 10 hearts instantly. Her romantic interest betrays itself in dialogue, even if it is hidden by the counter.

Evidently, this is mostly harmless glitch with the gifting system.

Does a garbage salad count as dinner? Or would you prefer some year-old blackberries?

The futher you progress on the "hearts" with any of the "singles" the more "suggestive" their dialog becomes.

Unfortunatly. I really wish the "suggestive" dialog was separate, and had to be enabled (by giving them the bouquet), and if you didn't give them the bouquet, then they'd just be friendly, without being suggestive.

Once you reach 8 hearts, you cannot progress further (with one of the singles) unless you give them the bouquet.

However (as you discovered) if you are at 7.99 hearts, and you give them a loved gift on their birthday, you can jump to 9+ hearts, and have them act quite romatical towards you. That can happen with any of them. There's nothing wrong with the game It's just a limitation of how the hearts system works.
@Nakos

I agree it would be preferable to keep the friendships and romances separate, as it can get tedious with a lot of the 8-caps using that kind of language when the player has no interest. I don't need to hear "Wouldn't it be nice to have someone help on your farm?" every day. Luckily their dialogue is unique enough that few of them are that forward.

Anyways, thanks for the information. Because there is no way to directly quantify relationship points, its hard to judge the range when they'll shoot above the limit. While messing with Emily and gifts, she got to (low) 9 hearts from (high) 6, so the range is actually pretty large. Its just a workaround from the heart limit, and doesn't cause any problems.

I still like Leah, and she at least stands out now in the registry.

As long as the blackberries are gold star level at least it is fine.
