Crab Pot Locations
With no pressing quests to do and plenty of money in the bank I devised a competition to keep me interested in the game – the Great Crab Pot Challenge. The rules were simple, one 20 pot set in each of 11 locations with Willy appointed as adjudicator. He decreed that only marketable fish would qualify and the winning location would be decided by the total value of the catch. Fair enough, every location would have an equal chance at the grand prize of 20 crab pots set permanently in their area.

The pots were set over a two week period using normal bait and the fortune teller wasn’t consulted.

The surprise winner was the Secret Woods Pond with a total catch value of 1732 gold, second place went to the Witches Swamp with the Mountain Lake third.

Full Results:

1st Secret Woods Pond 1732 gold
2nd Witch’s Swamp 1292
3rd Mountain Lake 1232
4th River (Forest) 1165
5th The Sewers 986
6th River (Town) 971
7th Forest Pond 859
8th Farm (Hill-Top) 822
9th Mutant Bug Lair 814
10th Ocean 490
11th Desert Pond 284

The most useful location was the Mountain Lake because it is on the way to the Mines and was even better because I had mine carts available. However the most interesting location was the Mutant Bug Lair. No need to take bait there as it is literally falling out of the skies. The biggest surprise of course was the dismal showing of the Ocean. In fact the only reason it didn’t come dead last was because I deducted the bus fare from the Desert Pond result.

Within each location I selected the actual crab pot positions at random. It could well be that the Ocean result suffered because my pots were set on a wharf rather than along the beach – maybe checking that out will be my next task!

How in the world... The ocean has the same fish as the rest, but adds the lobster, which is worth the most. How did it lose...?

I demand the challenge be re-done with the "no trash" perk.

Hehe - wish I could oblige but I chose a different path. For the record the 20 ocean pots had no lobsters and no crabs in them.

I too am curious how this would differ with mariner (no trash) though your sample size is statistically somewhat small it's still an interesting little tidbit. I also wonder what the difference would be in the farm ranking if you had the fish-oriented farm.
