Hops in the Greenhouse
Hello! I just recently unlocked my Greenhouse, and am wanting to plant hops in it. Does anyone know of a good (efficient) setup for this (including sprinklers)? Thanks! :tabbycat:

The best sprinkler setup in terms of plot availability involves 4 Iridium sprinklers watering the central 10x10 space, with any sprinkers watering the two columns on either edge - it makes 116 spots out of a total 120 available for planting

hops? Oh I thought it was generally agreed upon to put constant producers like Strawberries, Blueberries, Cranberries or Ancient Fuit (though I haven't played it since the nerf).

I guess hops really are pretty valuable...

Anyway, probably this:

Make sure you get those trees.

cant do that with hops or any trellis plants

I never bothered with hops in the greenhouse, at least not full force. I did 16 quality sprinklers, making a 4x4 square. It lets you do 2 squares (16 tiles) of cranberries, strawberries, blueberries and ancient fruit. Or you can plant gift items, like pumpkins and fairy roses. I made the top 12(?) spaces for hops or grapes or whatever.

It's worth mentioning, though, that in the Summer I planted TONS of hops. Enough to keep me brewing beer up until the next Summer. This was with 100 or so kegs. I kept the silver/gold hops for food and the normal ones went into the keg. The 12 in the greenhouse just kept me topped off.

If you do want to line the greenhouse with them, though, I'd recommend you remember to plant on the spaces between hops, and remember you can harvest diagonally and from the outside... Remember that you harvest them daily, so you don't want to have an annoying maze to walk through.

What is the stipulation against hops in the Greenhouse? I thought that since they produced every day, it was easy, constant gold. Are there other or better crops to plant?

The stipulation, I think, is that anything on a trellis (like hops) blocks the player. So you can't simply use every square for hops since you won't be able to get to it to harvest. You have to plan out a path to get to them.

They are a great, early source of gold, they are just not the "best". I would definitely recommend them until you get ancient fruit going. You could also go starfruit, which I believe is a bit more profitable, but it's also more maintenance.

Well since the nerfs hops are pretty high up there for making money but are high maintenance. And since they have a trellis they use the greenhouse inefficiently even with the 15x15 mod.

Imo opinion planting any of the berries or ancient fruit is still max profit for minimum effort.

You do whatever you want though. Its your farm. The image i linked is pretty efficient as trellis farming in the greenhouse gets. I have seen some people put beehives in there too and plant a flower on each corner for constant honey production if you dont want fruit trees for whatver reason.

I wouldnt put kegs in there (thats what coops and barns are for) but yeah

I see now that hops are somewhat inefficient, but I am going to stick with them for a little while and see how I like them. Also, honey doesn't produce in the greenhouse (according to the Wiki). I was planning on building a shed for my kegs. How do I obtain enough ancient fruit seeds to fill up the greenhouse?
wayninja Feb 28, 2017 @ 7:44pm
Gotta find one first the hard way, then grow a fruit and use the seed maker on it, rinse and repeat.

I love brewing beer way more than wine. The problem is that having a greenhouse full of hops just sounds like a pain, since you have to plan a path both to harvest them and to plant sprinklers efficiently.

Again, I'd recommend maybe doing the outer walls as hops, and the rest as something you can walk on.

As for ancient fruit, you can get the seed from combat, fishing, tilling soil or using the seedmaker. I dunno the chance for the seed from the seedmaker offhand, but I think it's between 0.5-2.5%. You could just toss a bunch of cheap, plentiful crops like blueberries into the seed maker and hope for the best. Once you get several plants growing, they produce fruit regularly, and you can easily fill the greenhouse if you so desire.

It produces honey if its modded. I use a few quality of life ones like that.

Use the seed maker. Find exactly one anciient seed. Grow it, preferably in the greenhouse, then use the seed maker to turn the fruits into seeds. Unlike normal fruit, ancient fruit has a 98% chance of spawning from a seedmaker if you put an ancient fruit in.

You are absolutely correct, whoops

Hops avg/day is 13g. You cant use every space in the greenhouse so its wasted space you could use for more crops.

Coffee is 20. Blueberries are 21. Starfruits 26. Cranberries 18. And Strawberries, in a greenhouse, way more. why bother with annoying hops?
wayninja Mar 1, 2017 @ 7:17am
because you don't sell the hops directly, you make pale ale.
Metadragon Mar 1, 2017 @ 10:55am
I should let you know that while tedious the Ancient Fruits are worth 550 each minimum. And they produce every 7 days meaning they are worth 75.5 gold per day as is. And of course wine makes everything better. They are low maintenance which is my favorite draw. I just dont have time to harvest hops every day and then make beer.

That said if you dont mind the busy work Pale Ale is the second highest earning ponential in the game. But the greenhouse is better used with constant growers like the berries, ancient fruit or coffee.

In real life i am definately a beer man though. I wonder if there are any alcohol related mods out there to add more beer types and related plants.
