In regards to Artisan Goods....
Does the Quality of the item you put in, effect the quality that comes out? I.E if I put Gold star Milk in a Cheese press, am I more likly to take Gold Star cheese out?
specifically, I am looking at Kegs.

This is what I discovered about them.... Animal products : Regular products have no affect, Silver has no affect. Gold products will come out gold. Regular Large products come out gold even if they don't have a gold star.
When it comes to Kegs and Perserve jars I haven't seen the item quality have any affect on those. They always come out regular staus.

Talking about cheese and Mayo. If you put in gold milk and eggs the product will always come out gold.

This is just what I've found on my own and the results I always get.

Large Milk/Eggs will produce gold quality products. anything else has a CHANCE of producing silver/gold. some items don't have quality like Duck Mayo.

Eggs are worth more as Mayo no matter their quality

Iridium Milk/Truffles are worth more than the cheese/oil they produces.

Gold and Iridium quality Wool is worth more than the Cloth it can be turned into.

Preserves Jars and Kegs increase value of a product based off of a no-star quality version so a gold star Apple will produce the same result as a no-star one. Even so, it's more worth it to put them in Preserve Jars and Kegs. Most Fruit are better in Kegs while most Vegetables are better preserved.

This isn't true if you have the artisan perk.

This isn't true if you have the artisan perk.

But if you get the Rancher thing earlier on, you cannot get the Artisan one.
And you get less in the way of Iridium quality animal products if you don't pick Rancher.

So it sort of cancels each other out.

That's not entirely true either. Truffles are affected by Botanist. So you get nothing but Irridium truffles from that perk, which has nothing to do with the Farming tree.

It doesn't cancel out. Artisan is miles better than rancher in terms of profit.

But this is all beyond the point. The only point was that with Artisan (which pretty much everyone should take, I can't think of a compelling reason not to), the artisan products for milk and truffles are worth more than their irridium ingredients.

Most Fruit are better in Kegs while most Vegetables are better preserved.
So if you have the Artisan Perk, the Truffles and Milk are better to be Processed?
And why are Fruits better to be put in Kegs? I thought Kegs where twice as long to process for only 3x, compaired to the 2x of Jars?
Bigguyinthesky Feb 25, 2017 @ 3:04pm
if you take artisan + gatherer + botanist you have the chance to pick two truffles instead of one and they are always iridum quality, They are still worth more because of the artisan skill if you turn them into truffle oil.
wayninja Feb 25, 2017 @ 3:12pm
Yes, with Artisan (which is better IMO than every other perk in this category), milk and truffles should be processed to max profit.

Generally speaking, fruits are better for kegs and vegetables for jars, but it's not universal. The keg has a higher multiplier, and the jar has the advantage of speed. You'd probably have to do some research or maths to figure out how to min/max it. I'm personally not that into it, and prefer a more empyrical/feel approach to it, which is more fun to me. You can make some serious cash using kegs/jars either way, so just go with what seems fun.

i find the highest turn over is to have a farm with plots of strawberries in spring/blueberries in summer/cranberries in fall no fertaliser needed as you will be jarring them so quality doesnt matter. i then plant one time crops on an other plot in each season planting them to get the mega crops.

starfruit gives two harvests in summer great for jar or keg for huge profit

Just to be clear, you mean you can use the same land to get 2 harvests of it in summer, not that it gives two harvests (like hops or coffee giving multiple harvests).

But yeah, Starfruit is great. Only ancient fruit is better, and that's partially because of it's reduced maintenance.
Bigguyinthesky Feb 25, 2017 @ 3:44pm
yeah you have to harvest it and replant but it's so quick as you are going to either jar it or keg it meaning fertalizer is useless. I have my green house full of ancient fruit and i keg it and i've just learnt it's most profitable to cask it to silver and take it out.
Bigguyinthesky Feb 25, 2017 @ 3:45pm
4x harvest for silver 14 days vs 1 time harvest at iridium 56 days

Coffee is so useless, unless you want to give it to Harvey.
Pepper Poppers speed you up and give you a nice farming bonus.
