When it comes to Kegs and Perserve jars I haven't seen the item quality have any affect on those. They always come out regular staus.
Talking about cheese and Mayo. If you put in gold milk and eggs the product will always come out gold.
This is just what I've found on my own and the results I always get.
Eggs are worth more as Mayo no matter their quality
Iridium Milk/Truffles are worth more than the cheese/oil they produces.
Gold and Iridium quality Wool is worth more than the Cloth it can be turned into.
Preserves Jars and Kegs increase value of a product based off of a no-star quality version so a gold star Apple will produce the same result as a no-star one. Even so, it's more worth it to put them in Preserve Jars and Kegs. Most Fruit are better in Kegs while most Vegetables are better preserved.
This isn't true if you have the artisan perk.
But if you get the Rancher thing earlier on, you cannot get the Artisan one.
And you get less in the way of Iridium quality animal products if you don't pick Rancher.
So it sort of cancels each other out.
It doesn't cancel out. Artisan is miles better than rancher in terms of profit.
But this is all beyond the point. The only point was that with Artisan (which pretty much everyone should take, I can't think of a compelling reason not to), the artisan products for milk and truffles are worth more than their irridium ingredients.
And why are Fruits better to be put in Kegs? I thought Kegs where twice as long to process for only 3x, compaired to the 2x of Jars?
Generally speaking, fruits are better for kegs and vegetables for jars, but it's not universal. The keg has a higher multiplier, and the jar has the advantage of speed. You'd probably have to do some research or maths to figure out how to min/max it. I'm personally not that into it, and prefer a more empyrical/feel approach to it, which is more fun to me. You can make some serious cash using kegs/jars either way, so just go with what seems fun.
Just to be clear, you mean you can use the same land to get 2 harvests of it in summer, not that it gives two harvests (like hops or coffee giving multiple harvests).
But yeah, Starfruit is great. Only ancient fruit is better, and that's partially because of it's reduced maintenance.
